Swimming Finishes at Nationals

Xavier had four compete in two events on the last day of the US Open.
ATLANTA, Ga. – Xavier swimming closes the fall season, sending eight Musketeers to the US Open in Atlanta, Georgia. Alex Sironen, Brandon Abboud, Landon Clark, Jon Bernard, Christian Thomas, Nick Mahoney and Cameron Weese are set to represent on the men side, while Ali Fort qualified on the women's side.
The event begins Wednesday evening and continues through Saturday night at Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center.
On day two of competition at the US Open, Alex Sironen finished Xavier's first event in the 50 freestyle. The junior touched the wall at the 24.44 second, placing in 153rd in the 16th heat. Sironen did not qualify for the finals.
In Friday's heats, Jon Bernard placed 88thin the 100 breaststroke.
Xavier had four compete in the 100 backstroke. Alex Sironen lead the Musketeers finishing in 102, marking a 59.40 time. Christian Thomas touched the wall at 59.48 placing 105th. Jon Bernard finished at 59.99 in front of Landon Clarke.
In the 100 butterfly, Brandon Abboud led Xavier touching the wall at 56.35, 94th place. Landon Clark finished at the 58.18 second.
On the women's side, Ali Fort competed in the 100 back, placing 98th.
In the first event, Nick Mahoney led Xavier in the 200 back. The junior place in 73rd, touching the wall at 2:09.78. Jon Bernard followed with a time of 2:11.75, landing 91st overall. Alex Sironen placed just behind Bernard clocking 2:11.77 to place 92nd.
Second, the men competed in the 200 breast. Jon Bernard led the way for the Musketeers finishing in 70th, at 2:25.67. Cameron Weese was disqualified from the event.
Xavier swimming returns to the pool for competition after the new year, on January 17, as they take on crosstown rivals, University of Cincinnati.
