Musketeers prepare for BIG EAST Championships, starting Feb. 20

OXFORD, Ohio - Xavier swimming closed out the dual portion of its schedule at Miami (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers combined for 15 top-three finishes, including an win in the 100 back for Caroline Gaertner, in the final meet before the BIG EAST Championships.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE

Caroline Gaertner, Lydia Schaeffer, Taylor Hogan and Emily Conners set a time of 3:53.81 in the 400 medley relay to take second.
Maggie Kauffeld took third in the 1000 free with a time of 11:05.59.
Emily Conners scored in fourth place in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.00.
Caroline Gaertner won the 100 back with a time of 57.31.
Lydia Schaeffer's time of 1:07.26 in the 100 breast led Xavier, finishing fourth.
Taylor Hogan led Xavier in the 200 fly, finishing third with a time of 2:06.08.
Maureen Cummins set a season-best time of 24.30 in the 50 free to tie with Laura Dicus for third place. Tianna Vozar touched just behind the pair to place fifth.
Emily Conners' time of 53.04 led Xavier, finishing third.
Caroline Gaertner placed second in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.17.
Alison Herman finished the 200 breast in 2:26.74 to lead Xavier, finishing fifth.
Katie Kerr set a time of 5:21.04 in the 500 free to score in fifth place.
Annie Cummins set a time of 58.24 to place fourth in the 100 fly.
Taylor Hogan used a time of 4:34.93 in the 400 IM to finish fourth.
Emily Conners, Emily Saugstad, Caroline Gaertner and Tianna Vozar set a time of 3:32.38 in the 400 free to finish third.
Xavier's women fell, 234-56.

MEN'S NOTABLE

Sam Johanns, Matthew Dyer, Brandon Abboud and Christian Thomas opened the meet with a time of 3:24.48 in the 400 medley relay to place second.
Nick Mahoney's time of 9:49.76 led Xavier in the 1000 free, placing fourth.
Jared Ritz' time of 1:43.47 led Xavier in the 200 free, finishing fourth. Brandon Abboud touched just behind him with a season-best time of 1:44.92.
Sam Johanns led Xavier with a third place finish in the 100 back, with a time of 51.22.
Matthew Dyer's time of 58.19 led Xavier and was good for second place in the 100 breast.
Landon Clark led Xavier in the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.03 to place fourth.
Christian Thomas led Xavier with a fourth place finish in the 50 free with a time of 21.43.
Sam Johanns led Xavier again, in the 100 free, with a time of 47.16 to place fourth. Enrique Hernandez touched just behind him in fifth.
Chase Baldwin placed third in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.39.
Matthew Dyer's time of 2:08.60 in the 200 breast led the Musketeers and placed fourth.
Cothalee Watko used a season-best time of 4:44.94 to lead Xavier in the 500 free, placing fourth.
Brandon Abboud scored in second place in the 100 fly with a time of 50.82.
Chase Baldwin set a time of 4:16.81 in the 400 IM to take fourth.
Jared Ritz, Sam Johanns, Enrique Hernandez and Brandon Abboud touched the wall in 3:06.00 in the 400 free to take second. Ben Quon, Alex Sironen, Matthew Geraghty and Matthew Dyer finished third.
Xavier's men fell, 239-55.

Xavier takes a break from outside competition leading up to the 2019 BIG EAST Championships. The conference meet will be held in Long Island, N.Y., running from February 20-23, 2019 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
