Xavier hosts three matches next weekend

DAYTON, Ohio - Xavier women's tennis moved its winning streak to four with a 5-2 road win at Wright State. The Musketeers, 5-2 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play, return home to host three matches next weekend.

"We set the tone in doubles tonight," said head coach Doug Matthews. "Wright State plays really strong doubles and we knew that would be an important point for us. They battled us really tough in singles and I'm happy we were able to get a tough road win."

THE MATCH

In doubles, the Musketeers took the point with wins in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, for Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas, and the No. 3 spot, 6-1, for Rachael Reichenbach and Hunter Roper. Sophia Abelson and Kaitlin Ruether led 5-3 in the No. 2 spot when the point was decided.

Xavier secured the 5-2 win with singles victories in the Nos. 1, 3 5 and 6 singles spots. Abelson took the top spot, winning the first set after tiebreakrs, 7-6, then taking the second set, 6-2.

Rachael Reichenbach played No. 3 singles, coming back to win in three, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Kaitlin Ruether took the two set win in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-4.

Natalie Moyer took the win in the No. 6 spot, after tiebreakers in second set, 6-2, 7-6 (2).

In the No. 2 spot, Emily Thomas went to a third set after taking the second in tie breakers, falling 3-6, 7-6 (2), 11-9. In the No. 4 spot, Hunter Roper fell, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
