Musketeers return to action on Sunday at Georgetown

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Xavier women's tennis opened up BIG EAST Conference play with 7-0 sweep of the Villanova Wildcats. After claiming the doubles point, the Musketeers won all six singles spots in two set to move to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in BIG EAST play.

"We had a big road win at our very first conference match today," said senior Zoe Manion following the match. "We played strong at every position and I couldn't be prouder of this team. I think this was exactly what we needed to help our confidence going into the rest of the season. Next up, Georgetown!"

THE MATCH

Xavier took the doubles point, with Rachael Reichenbach and Hunter Roper taking a 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot, and Sophia Abelson and Kaitlin Ruether securing the point in the No. 2 spot, 6-3. Emily Thomas and Ahmeir Kyle were tied 4-4 when the point was decided.

After taking the 1-0 lead, Xavier took all five singles points in two set matches. Ahmeir Kyle took the No. 1 spot, 7-5, 6-1 over Lexi DeNucci.

In the No. 2 spot, Sophia Abelson won 6-2, 6-4, over Claudia Althans. Emily Thomas won the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-3, over Lindsey Evans.

Rachael Reichenbach opened up play in the No. 4 spot with a 6-0 win over Alexandra Vesikallio, then secured the point with a 7-5 win in the second set.

Hunter Roper used a 6-1, 7-5 win over Olivia Kapp to take the point in the No. 5 spot. Kaitlin Ruether claimed the No. 6 point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Carina Burdick.
