Ryan Altenberger Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

NEW YORK - Sophomore infielder Ryan Altenberger was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Tuesday morning.
The Morton, Ill. native hit .500 (5-for-10) in a three-game series as Xavier was swept at No. 23 Arizona State (15-0) last week. He led XUÂ with five hits, four doubles and 12 total bases in the series.Â
In the series, Altenberger did a little bit of everything as he homered, scored twice and drove in two runs. He also walked twice to post a .583 on-base percentage and a remarkable 1.783 OPS.
In the opener, he went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk before following it up with a 2-for-4 line and a homer in Saturday's 8-3 loss. In the finale, he went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI in an 11-6 loss.
Xavier (5-8) is ranked seventh nationally in the RPI and six of its eight losses are against ranked teams. The Musketeers return to action tonight, playing a road game at Arizona with first pitch set for 9 p.m. ET.
