Women's Tennis Keeps Streak Alive in Win Over Seton Hall

The Musketeers extend win streak to 11 in BIG EAST matchup
ORLANDO - Xavier women's tennis moved to 13-2 on the season with its 11th straight win, defeating Seton Hall, 4-3, in Orlando on Friday afternoon. The Musketeers are now 4-0 in BIG EAST Conference play and are undefeated at neutral sites this season.
"Today was a total team effort," said freshman Emily Thomas. "We all came ready to play in the hot Florida heat. I'm so proud of this team and all the grit that we have shown over the course of the whole season. Today's win over Seton Hall was a huge conference win for us and we fought for the 4-3 win."
Xavier collected the doubles point with a 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot for Sophia Abelson and Kaitlin Ruether. The win for Abelson and Ruether is their 11th straight as a pair. Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas then fell in the No. 1 spot, 3-6. Hunter Roper and Rachael Reichenbach, responded, however, with a 6-4 victory to give the Musketeers the early 1-0 lead.
Sophia Abelson fell in Xavier's first singles match, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot, tying the score at 1-1. Emily Thomas responded in the No. 3 singles spot with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Musketeers.
Hunter Roper kept the momentum going with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot for Xavier, making the score 3-1 in favor of the Musketeers. Kaitlin Ruether followed suit in the No. 6 spot with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory, giving Xavier its fourth and winning point. The Musketeers are now 4-0 against BIG EAST Conference opponents and have gone undefeated since February 1.
Seton Hall grabbed the final two points of the match in singles play despite coming up short in the end. Ahmeir Kyle fell to Seton Hall in the No. 1 spot, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, and teammate Rachael Reichenbach fell in a hard fought effort, 3-6, 7-5, 11-9, in the No. 4 spot.
