Musketeers move to 15-2 overall, 5-0 in BIG EAST play

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis moved to 15-2 on the season with its 13th straight win, beating Marquette, 4-2, at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club on Saturday evening. The Musketeers moved to 5-0 in BIG EAST play as Xavier extended its win streak, the longest for the program since winning 12 straight during the 2014-15 season.

"Today was a big win for us," said senior Sophia Abelson. "It's always great to get a BIG EAST win but especially to get revenge on them from last year is a bonus. Marquette is always a contender in the BIG EAST so it gives us confidence moving forward as we finish off the last couple weeks of the season and look forward to the conference tournament. We came out really strong in doubles and set the pace from there. I'm really proud of the team for the hard work and determination they have shown throughout the season. I think this win will continue to propel us forward

THE MATCH

Xavier collected the doubles point with a 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot for Sophia Abelson and Kaitlin Ruether, their 13th straight doubles win as a team. Hunter Roper and Rachael Reichenbach secured the doubles point with a 6-0 win, their sixth straight win.

Xavier went up 2-0 with Sophia Abelson's 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot.

Marquette grabbed a point, 6-4, 6-3, over Kaitlin Ruether in the No. 6 spot. Hunter Roper's 7-6 (4), 6-4 win in the No. 5 spot, and Emily Thomas' 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot, her ninth-straight, secured the win for Xavier, 4-1.

Marquette closed out the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win over Rachael Reichenbach in the No. 4 spot and a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Ahmeir Kyle in the No. 1 spot.
