Gray Posts Double-Double, Xavier's Season Ends at BIG EAST Tournament

CHICAGO - Sophomore A'riana Gray posted her 15th double-double of the season on Saturday night, recording a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds as Xavier's season came to a close in the BIG EAST Tournament. No. 7 seed Providence topped the No. 10 seed Musketeers, 70-62, at Wintrust Arena.
The Musketeers conclude the 2018-19 season with an 11-19 (2-16 BIG EAST) record.
• Xavier led 7-5 in the opening minutes of hte game before the Friars scored 13 unanswered points, taking a 18-7 advantage at the 2:18 mark. Lauren Wasylson hit a basket in the closing seconds of the quarter to cut Xavier's deficit to eight (18-10).
• The Musketeers used a 5-2 run capped by a Na'Teshia Owens jumper to open the second quarter, closing within five points (20-15) of the Friars. Providence responded by using an 11-4 run to push its lead to 12 points (31-19), the team's largest lead of the half. The Friars led by 12 three times in the quarter, outscoring Xavier 19-15 in the frame to take a 37-25 advantage into the locker room.
• A'riana Gray led the Musketeers with 10 points and nine rebounds. The forward was 4-for-9 from the floor. Lauren Wasylson added five points and Aaliyah Dunham dished out a game-high four assists.
• Providence held a 20-16 advantage on the glass and had four more points off of turnovers (7-3). Xavier scored five more fastbreak points (5-0).
• Xavier went 7-for-14 (.500) from the floor in the third quarter to get within 10 points of the Friars three times in the frame. The Musketeers outscored Providence, 16-14, in the quarter to make the score 51-41 heading into the final quarter.
• The Musketeers used an 8-4 run to open the fourth quarter and get within six points (55-49) on a A'riana Gray three pointer at the 8:10 mark. The Friars responded by scoring six straight points to regain a double-figure lead they would hold onto until the closing seconds of the game. An Ashley Gomez three pointer with two seconds on the clock made the final score, 70-62.
• Xavier posted a .583 field-goal percentage (7-for-12) in the final quarter.
• Sophomore A'riana Gray posted her BIG EAST leading 15th double-double of the year, recording a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds. She was 9-for-17 from the floor.
• A'riana Gray finished the season with six 20-point performances and had 10 or more rebounds in 20 games. The forward finished the year with 344 rebounds to rank fifth in single-season school history. Her 11.5 rebounds per game ranks fourth in single-season school history.
• Junior Na'Teshia Owens finished with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting. Sophomore Princess Stewart added eight points and junior Ashley Gomez chipped in seven points. Sophomore Aaliyah Dunham matched her career high in assists with seven. She added four points, four rebounds and two steals.
• Providence won the battle on the glass, 33-29, and scored three more points off of turnovers (12-9).
