04.02.19 | Women's Tennis
NEW YORK - After an undefeated week playing in the No. 1 spot, sophomore Ahmeir Kyle was named the women's BIG EAST Tennis Athlete of the Week by the conference offices.
"I'm really proud of Ahmeir," said head coach Doug Matthews. "She has matured a lot this year and is handling adversity during matches better. Having a year of experience at number one has helped tremendously. She is a huge part of our team's success and we will need her and everyone else to stay focused down the stretch."
Kyle went 3-0 in a weekend where the Musketeers went 2-0 against BIG EAST teams, winning their 15th straight match, including a 7-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Xavier is now 17-2 overall, with the win streak dating back to early February.
Â
In a 7-0 win over Providence, Kyle partnered with Emily Thomas in the No. 1 spot, taking the 6-1 win to secure the doubles point.
Â
Against DePaul, Kyle again played with Thomas in the No. 1 doubles spot, taking the 6-2 win to help secure the doubles point.
Â
In the match against the Blue Demons, Kyle also topped Keisha Clousing, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 1 spot to collect the fourth point for the Musketeers on the way to a 6-1 win.
This is Kyle's second weekly award of the season, also winning the honor in January.
