Garrett Wood Wins Individual Title at BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship

OKATIE, S.C. - Sophomore Garrett Wood captured the BIG EAST men's golf individual title with a 3-under performance in the final round. Wood qualifies for the NCAA Regional tournament with the BIG EAST individual title.

Xavier also becomes the first school to capture the individual titles at both the men's and women's championships since 2014 (St. John's). Junior Mikalya Fitzpatrick won the women's title last weekend, leading the Musketeers to their first conference title in program history.

Wood is the 12th individual conference title winner in school history.

The Musketeers finished seventh overall as a team after they carded a 303 in the final round.

Garrett Wood started the final day tied for fifth and moved up with his seventh round of par-or-better this season. Wood finished tied for first in par-4 scoring at 4.00 (E), third in par-3 scoring at 2.92 (-1) and among the leaders in total pars with 33 for the weekend.

Imaad Qureshi finished in 21st with a total of 228 for the 54-hole outing. Qureshi led XU and tied for third for the tournament in total birdies with 34.

Martin Jaramillo carded an 80 over the final 18 holes and finished tied for 24th for the weekend.

Nick Frey finished the tournament in a tie for 36th, respectively.

TEAM RESULTS

Xavier finished the BIG EAST Championship with a total score of 912 (+48) and in seventh place.

Marquette won the championship with an 8-over total of 872.

UP NEXT

Garrett Woods will be participating in one of six NCAA Regionals (Pullman, Stanford, Myrtle Beach, Louisville, Athens, Austin) on May 13-15. The NCAA Championships are on May 25-29 in Fayetteville, Ark.

The NCAA Selection Show will be aired on the Golf Channel at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1.
