Baseball Falls to Seton Hall In Game Two

CINCINNATI -- A late-game Seton Hall rally resulted in Xavier losing 11-3, Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers drop the series as their record falls to 20-27 overall and 9-4 in BIG EAST play.

The Musketeers jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Matt Warkentin led-off after being hit by a pitched before advancing to second on a Chris Givin single to center. Warkentin reached home on a sacrifice fly out from Luke Franzoni to give Xavier the first edge of the game.

Warkentin advanced home on a balk, extending Xavier's lead, 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Pirates evened the game with a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth. Seton Hall continued it's fifth-inning rally with a triple to center, leading to another run scored on a wild pitch, 3-2.

Ryan Altenberger and Natale Monastra drew a back-to-back walks to start the seventh. A Conor Grammes double to right, scoring Altenberger, tied the game at three.

Seton Hall responded with a two-RBI double to center, to reclaim the lead 5-3. Another RBI double extended the Pirate lead, 6-3. Seton Hall's eighth inning rally continued with a third straight RBI double, 7-3. A base-clearing triple gave SHU an 8-3 advantage.

Seton Hall added three more runs in the top of the ninth, 11-3.

The series finale and Senior Day will be Sunday, May 5 at Hayden Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., moved back from the originally scheduled starting time of 12 p.m.

XU AT THE PLATE

Jack Housinger double down the left field line in the fourth inning. Housinger also had a single to left center, finishing the day 2-2 from the plate with a walk.
Matt Warkentin went 1-3 from the plate, scoring two runs for the Musketeers.
Conor Grammes' seventh-inning RBI double scored Ryan Altenberger. Grammes went 1-4 from the plate.
Chris Givin went 1-4 on the day, with a single to center.
Natale Monastra had a leadoff double to center in the fifth, going 1-2 at the plate witha walk.
Luke Franzoni collected an RBI on the day with a sac fly.

XU ON THE MOUND

Conor Grammes took the mound for Xavier striking out five batters, two looking, with two earned runs against him.
Trevor Olson entered the game in the top of fifth, delivering 3.1 innings with three strikeouts on four hits.
Evan Miller added 0.2 innings pitched, giving up three runs on two hits.
David Williams came in for the final tw outs fo the ninth inning, holding the Pirates scoreless to close out the game.

SEVENTH INNING | After drawing back-to-back walks, Natale Monastra was thrown out at second but Ryan Altenberger was safe at third. Altenberger scored on a Conor Grammes double to right field tying the game at three.
