EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior Mikayla Fitzpatrick qualified for the NCAA National Championships on Wednesday as the Musketeers wrapped up action at the NCAA East Lansing Regional. Xavier finished tied for 14th place (out of 18 teams) in the final team standings.
Fitzpatrick finished tied for sixth (out of 84 golfers), posting a three-day score of 216 (E).Â
Fitzpatrick is one of three individuals from the regional who earned a qualifying spot (the top three individuals not on one of the top six teams) to the NCAA National Championships. She is one of only 12 total individual qualifiers from four NCAA Regionals to advance to the championships slated for May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The three-day tournament was hosted by Michigan State University at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on May 6-8.Â
Fitzpatrick becomes the first Xavier player to advance to the NCAA Championships in program history. The Musketeers were competing in their first NCAA Regional after winning the BIG EAST Championships earlier this month - the school's first conference title. Fitzpatrick was also named BIG EAST Golfer of the Year after claiming the individual title at the conference championships.Â
