
Mikayla Fitzpatrick Set for NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Junior Mikayla Fitzpatrick is set for the NCAA Championships on May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Ark. at Blessings Golf Club. The golfer qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual at the East Lansing Regional on May 8, placing tied for sixth.

• Fitzpatrick is one of three individuals from the East Lansing Regional who earned a qualifying spot (the top three individuals not on one of the top six teams) to the NCAA National Championships. She is one of only 12 total individual qualifiers from four NCAA Regionals to advance to the championships. Fitzpatrick finished tied for sixth (out of 84 golfers), posting a three-day score of 216 (E), at the regional.
• Fitzpatrick becomes the first Xavier player to advance to the NCAA Championships in program history. The Musketeers were competing in their first NCAA Regional after winning the BIG EAST Championships earlier this month - the school's first conference title. Fitzpatrick was also named BIG EAST Golfer of the Year after claiming the individual title at the conference championships.Â
• Fitzpatrick also won the individual title at the BIG EAST Championships, winning by nine strokes. She posted a three-day score of 216 (E).
• Fitzpatrick was recently named Xavier's BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Each BIG EAST member institution has a male and female winner, with each winner receiving $2,000 toward graduate studies.
• Fitzpatrick was also named the most outstanding golfer by the Cincinnati Women's Sports Association (CWSA) on May 11. She earns the award for the second time in as many years.
