Xavier Takes 80-53 Win in Spain Opener

BARCELONA - Xavier men's basketball opened its international trip with a dominating win over the Spain All Stars in Barcelona. Naji Marshall led three Musketeers in double figures as the Musketeers took the 80-53 win.
Xavier held a 25-12 lead after the first quarter, led by seven points early for Marshall and maintained a double-digit lead through the second quarter. Spain briefly threatening to cut it to single digits before Jason Carter fueled a 6-0 run for Xavier to take a 41-27 lead to the half. Carter had six points and eight boards at the half. Marshall led all scorers with seven at the break.
Early in the third, Xavier broke the game open with five quick points from Marshall helping to push the lead out to 22. The Musketeer advantage was 24 at the third quarter break, with seven points for Marshall in the third quarter pushing his team-high total to 14. Zach Freemantle went 4-of-5 from the floor in the third to lead all scores in the period.
Xavier continued to build its lead, holding as much as 33 point lead before winning by a final advantage of 27, 80-53.
Eight Musketeers scored, led by Marshall's 16 points, who also led the Musketeers with seven assists.
Tyrique Jones finished with 12 points, going 6-of-8 from the floor. Jones also grabbed a team-high nine boards.
Jason Carter finished with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Dieonte Miles scored nine for the Musketeers, all in the second half.
Dahmir Bishop scored eight, hitting 2-of-5 from outside. Zach Freemantle also contributed eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Quentin Goodin and Bryce Moore each added six, with Goodin going 3-of-3 on two-point field goals, and Moore scoring on a pair of threes.
The entirety of the international trip will be played with FIBA rules, including quarters, a 24-second shot clock and an extended 3-point line.
