Women's Tennis Opens Fall Schedule with Strong Showing at Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Xavier women's tennis returned to action this past weekend in their first fall invitational tournament as a team in 2019. The Musketeers picked up 15 singles victories and 13 doubles wins over the three-day Hoosier Classic, hosted by Indiana University.

DAY 1

Xavier started strong in doubles competition, going a perfect 8-0 on Day 1. Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas teamed up for a 6-2 win over Western Michigan and a 6-3 win over Louisville. Rachael Reichenbach and Anna Roggenburk defeated Western Michigan 6-2, followed by a 6-1 victory over BIG EAST foe Marquette. Hunter Roper and Kaitlin Ruether picked up a 7-6 victory over Miami (OH), followed by a 6-1 win over Western Michigan. Anna Letto and Lauren Fitz-Randolph rounded off the day with a 6-3 win over Western Michigan and the defeated Wright State, 6-1.

The Musketeers ended the first day with a 4-5 record in singles play. Wins came from Hunter Roper, Roggenburk, and two from sophomore Natalie Moyer. Moyer defeated Western Michigan 6-1, 6-2 and Marquette 7-5, 6-2.

DAY 2

The Musketeers ended the second day of doubles play with a 5-3 record. Reichenbach and Roggenburk started Xavier off with a 6-4 win over Louisville. Kyle and Thomas followed with a 7-6 (7-4) victory over Miami (OH). Letto and Fitz-Randolph added another win over Western Michigan, 6-1. In round four of doubles, Roper and Ruether defeated Middle Tennessee, 6-2. Reichenbach and Roggenburk then added another 6-4 doubles win over Middle Tennessee.

Xavier picked up five more singles wins, coming from Letto, Moyer, Roggenburk, Roper and Ruether. The Musketeers defeated women from Western Michigan, Wright State, Indiana and Cincinnati.

DAY 3

Xavier closed out the competition with six singles victories on the final day. Xavier's only loss came in the first matchup of the day, as Ruether fell 6-1, 6-2 to Louisville. Fitz-Randolph picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Western Michigan, and Emily Thomas followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cincinnati. Roggenburk and Roper defeated opponents from Indiana, while Moyer and Letto grabbed two more victories over Wright State to finish off the weekend strong.
