Dunham, Gray Lead Musketeers to 85-64 Win at Georgetown

Junior Aaliyah Dunham scored a career-high 20 points on Friday night
WASHINGTON - Juniors Aaliyah Dunham and A'riana Gray combined for 40 points on Friday night, leading the Xavier women's basketball team to an 85-64 win at Georgetown. The Musketeers improve to 2-13 (1-3 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas dropped to 4-12 (1-4 BIG EAST).
The win over Georgetown snapped the Musketeers seven-game losing streak in the series.
• Xavier opened the game on an 11-4 run capped by a Carrie Gross layup at the 4:35 mark. Georgetown closed within three points (19-16) with 31 seconds on the clock before Sarah Leyendecker knocked down a three pointer as time expired to give Xavier a 22-16 advantage.
• Georgetown opened the second frame on an 11-1 run, taking a 27-23 advantage at the 5:03 mark. Xavier responded by going on a 13-1 capped by a Morgan Sharps three pointer to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.
• Aaliyah Dunham led Xavier with 11 points at the break, while Sarah Leyendecker, Morgan Sharps and Carrie Gross all added six. Xavier was 7-for-11 from behind the arc in the first half.
• Xavier outscored Georgetown, 10-7, to open the second half and take its first double-figure lead, 46-35, at the 5:22 mark. The Musketeers led for the remainder of the quarter, pushing their lead to 16 poitns (57-41) on a Courtney Prenger layup with 52 seconds on the clock.
• The Hoyas closed within 12 points (57-45) in the opening minute of the fourth quarter before Xavier went on a 12-4 run to take its first 20-point lead of the game (67-47) with 6:07 left in regulation. The Musketeers maintained their double-figure lead for the remainder of the game, pulling away for the 85-64 win.
• A'riana Gray scored 18 points in the second half on 5-for-7 shooting. Lauren Wasylson and Aaliyah Dunham both had nine second-half points.
• Junior Aaliyah Dunham scored a career-high 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting. She was 4-for-4 from behind the arc. The guard added a game-high seven assists.
• Junior A'riana Gray scored 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting. The forward added four assists, three rebounds and one steal. She now has 12 career 20-point performances.
• Sophomore Sarah Leyendecker scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. She has scored in double figures in three of her last four games.
• Sophomore Lauren Wasylson scored 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting from behind the arc. She has now scored in double figures five times this season. The guard added three rebounds, one block and one steal.
• Sophomore Carrie Gross rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points on 5-for-8 shooting. She added a game-high four steals to go along with three assists and two rebounds.
• Xavier knocked down a season-high 13 three pointers as the Musketeers hit 65 percent (13-for-20) of their shot attempts. Five different players made a three pointer for the Musketeers. Xavier has made 10 or more three pointers in a game five times this season.
• Xavier also posted a season-high .509 field-goal percentage (29-for-57). The Musketeers were 14-for-20 from the free throw line.
• The Musketeers scored four more points off of turnovers (16-12) than the Hoyas and had 15 more fastbreak points (22-7).
• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 12 at Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. from Finneran Pavilion.
