WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Xavier women's tennis opened up the 2020 dual season with a tough Big 10 opponent, falling on the road at Purdue, 6-1. The Musketeers get right back to the courts tomorrow with a pair of home matches at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.

THE MATCH

Purdue took the double points with wins in the No. 3 spot over Kaitlin Ruether and Anna Letto, and then the No. 2 spot over Rachael Reichenbach and Anna Roggenburk. Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas trailed in the No. 1 spot, 5-4, when the point was decided.

Xavier responded to tie the match 1-1 with Rachael Reichenbach taking the first singles point in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-3. Purdue went ahead for good after taking the No. 1 spot, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Ahmeir Kyle to make it 2-1.

The Boilermakers' 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot over Anna Roggenburk set the match at 3-1, and the deciding point came in the No. 6 spot, with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Anna Letto. Kaitlin Ruether fell, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, in the No. 5 spot and Emily Thomas fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (6) in the No. 3 spot.
