KyKy Tandy's Career Night Leads Musketeers in Win Over Georgetown

Jones and Carter add double-double in 66-57 victory at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's basketball defeated Georgetown, 66-57, on Wednesday evening at Cintas Center. Freshman KyKy Tandy scored a career-high 18 points in the contest as Xavier snapped their three-game losing streak. Tyrique Jones and Jason Carter both added double-doubles for the Musketeers, leading them to their second BIG EAST Conference victory of the season.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier's first field goal of the game came off a hook shot jumper from Jason Carter with 17:45 left to play in the first half, tying the score at 4-4. On the next possession, the Musketeers took the lead following a three-pointer made by Naji Marshall from the left side.
- Xavier took a 9-4 lead following another hook shot from Carter down low with 16:25 remaining in the half. Then, following the first media timeout, Tyrique Jones connected on a powerful dunk from the left side. Marshall gave the Musketeers a 13-4 lead with 13:45 left to play after connecting on a pull-up jump shot.
- Two possessions later, a goaltending violation by Georgetown added to Xavier's 13-0 run. Xavier held the Hoyas scoreless for over six minutes after Georgetown scored four of the game's first 6 points
- Xavier's 17-1 run lasted for eight minutes and ended after the Hoyas connected on their first field goal in nine minutes of play. The Musketeers took a 21-8 lead with 9:00 left to play in the half after Zach Freemantle made a driving layup.
- Xavier extended their lead following a pull-up three-pointer from Paul Scruggs from straight away, making the score 26-8 with 7:00 remaining in the half.
- With 4:10 left to go in the half, Jones gave Xavier a 28-15 lead after connecting on a layup down low. Another second-chance layup by Jones and a driving layup made by KyKy Tandy gave Xavier a 32-20 lead with 1:30 remaining.
- With 0:13 left, Tandy knocked down a three-pointer from the left side to give Xavier a 35-23 lead going into halftime. Xavier led by as many as 18 points in the half.
- Carter led the way for the Musketeers in the half, scoring eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Carter added five rebounds in the half.
- Tandy added seven points for the Musketeers, while Jones added six points and seven rebounds in the half.
- Xavier shot 15-of-35, 43 percent, from the floor in the first half and out-rebounded the Hoyas, 25-18. The Musketeers grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the half and scored 10 second-chance points.

- The Musketeers opened the half with an alley oop dunk made by Tyrique Jones off an assist from Naji Marshall, giving Xavier a 37-23 lead. Four minutes later, Marshall connected on a second-chance layup to give Xavier a 39-29 lead with 15:50 left to play.
- With 14:00 remaining, KyKy Tandy connected on his second three-pointer of the game, giving Xavier a 42-31 lead. Then, with 12:30 left to play, Tandy connected on a pull-up jump shot and was fouled, giving Xavier a 44-33 lead.
- With 11:00 left to play in the half, Marshall connected on a fade-away three-pointer as the shot clock expired, making the score 47-35. 1:30 later, Marshall connected on a turnaround jump shot from just above the paint, giving Xavier a 49-38 lead.
- Jones threw down a reverse dunk under the basket with 6:05 left to play, giving Xavier a 56-44 lead. Marshall forced a Hoya turnover on the ensuing defensive possession and finished the effort with a made three-pointer on the other end. Another three-pointer from Tandy gave Xavier a 62-46 lead with 4:50 left to play.
- Georgetown continued on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes. The run was snapped when Jason Carter connected on a pair of free-throws with 1:08 remaining, giving Xavier a 64-54 lead.
- Tandy, Marshall and Carter combined to make four free-throws in the final minute of the game as Georgetown committed three fouls. Xavier won the game by a final score of 66-57, snapping a three-game losing streak.
- Marshall led the way in scoring with 13 points in the half on 4-of-10 shooting. He had two rebounds, five assists and two steals in the half.
- Tandy added 11 points for the Musketeers in the half on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. He shot 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point line and had five rebounds in the half.
- The Musketeers shot 5-of-14, 36 percent, from beyond the arc in the half and led by as many as 16. Xavier scored 15 points off turnovers and scored 20 second-chance points in the half.

- Naji Marshall scored a game-high tying 18 points. Marshall has now scored in double figures 15 times so far this season
- Tyrique Jones recorded his 10th double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the contest. Jones is now just three rebounds shy of entering the top 20 on Xavier's all-time rebounding list.
- KyKy Tandy scored a career high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. Tandy recorded career highs in field goal makes, field goal attempts, minutes played and tied his career high for three-pointers made in a game.
- Jason Carter recorded his second Xavier career double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the contest. Carter's 10 rebounds were just one shy of his Xavier career high.
