• Xavier most recently competed at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky on Jan. 10-11. The two teams combined for seven top-10 finishes.
• The meet was highlighted by the women's DMR team (Klatt, Kostarellis, Morgan, Russell) placing second in the race in a time of 11:49.60.
Â
• Xavier opened the indoor season at the Mastodon Opener for the fifth consecutive season. All told, Xavier will compete in six indoor meets before the BIG EAST Championships.
• The BIG EAST Championships are slated for March 1-2 in Geneva, Ohio. The two-day meet is being held at the SPIRE Institute for the second time in as many years. The 2016 and 2018 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships were also held at the SPIRE Institute.Â
Â
• The Xavier women posted eight top-10 times at the BIG EAST Championships last year, paced by Anna Kostarellis who placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run (17:19.11). She also placed seventh in the 3,000-meter run (9:38.02).
• Anna Kostarellis also set the school record in the 3,000-meter run (9:33.43) at the Music City Challenge.
• The 4x800 relay team (Blackwell, Fioresi, Ramsey, Russell) also established a new school record in the event, posting a time of 9:09.03 at the BIG EAST Championships.
• On the men's side, the Musketeers had five top-10 finishes at the BIG EAST Championships. Two different relay teams set school records at the meet. The 4x400 (English, Hatchett, Henning, Roberts) finished fourth in a time of 3:17.48 and the 4x800 (Dietrich, Lough, Meehan, Stapleton) placed fourth in a time of 7:38.14.
Â
"The Can-Am International is a new meet on our schedule this season. The meet will combine team from both Canada and America in the same races. When we got invited to the meet I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for our team since we have a number of athletes that are from Canada. It will give our Canadian athletes a chance to race against some of their high school rivals and even teammates from their club days."
Â
"In terms of events, we spread ourselves out the best we could but we're dealing with a number of injuries on the sprint side at the moment. Both distance squads will need to step things up for us to have a presence at the meet. Being that it's our second meet back from the winter break, I think we'll see a lot of improvements. My goal is to finish this meet with more athletes in the top-10 on the BIG EAST descending order list."
Â
• Xavier continues its indoor track and field season at the Indiana Relays on Jan. 31 - Feb. 1.
