Marshall Scores 1,000th Career point as Musketeers Suffer First Home Loss of Season

Tyrique Jones leads the way with 19 points in loss to Seton Hall.
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's basketball fell to Seton Hall, 83-71, on Wednesday night in their first home loss of the 2019-20 season. Senior Tyrique Jones led the way for the Musketeers, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the Musketeers' second BIG EAST loss of the season. Paul Scruggs added 17 points for Xavier, while Naji Marshall became the 54th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

FIRST HALF |
- After a made free-throw by Quentin Goodin, Jason Carter gave Xavier their first field goal of the game with a made corner three pointer, giving the Musketeers an early 4-0 lead.
- On the next possession, Paul Scruggs gave Xavier a 7-2 lead following another made three pointer. Tyrique Jones then extended the Musketeer lead with a dunk off an inbounds pass from Goodin, giving them a 9-4 lead with 16:00 left to play.
- Freshman KyKy Tandy came off the bench and drained a three-pointer with 14:00 left to play in the half, giving Xavier a 12-9 lead.
- The Musketeers went scoreless over the next four minutes, allowing Seton Hall to go on a 12-0 run. With 9:25 left to play, Jason Carter hit a floater from the right block to make the score 21-15 in favor of the Pirates.
- Seton Hall went on a 9-2 run, making the score 30-17 with 5:30 remaining in the half. After two made free-throws and a forced turnover on the defensive end, the Musketeers cut the deficit to 10 with 4:00 remaining when Jason Carter connected on a driving layup.
- The Musketeers and Pirates traded three-pointers following a media timeout, making the score 36-26 with 3:00 left in the half. As time expired going into halftime, Scruggs connected on a driving layup, making the score 40-32 in favor of Seton Hall.
- The Musketeers shot 11-of-23, 48 percent, from the field in the half and knocked down four three-pointers.
- Carter led the way scoring in the first half for Xavier with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. He connected on two three-pointers, dished out two assists and had one rebound in the half.
- Jones added nine points for the Musketeers, shooting 3-of-3 from the field. He also had five rebounds and a blocked shot in the first half.
- Xavier trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half.

- The Musketeers opened the half with a made second-chance layup from Paul Scruggs down low, making the score 40-34 in favor of the Pirates. On the following possession, Tyrique Jones finished a dunk, making the score 41-36 with 18:40 left to play.
- A hook shot from Jones and a made three-pointer from Naji Marshall made the score 51-45 with 14:20 left to play in the half.
- A turnaround jump shot from the short corner made by Scruggs made the score 58-51 with 12:20 left. After Seton Hall responded with a driving layup, Scruggs connected on another jump shot from the opposite side. The Pirates' Myles Powell responded with another driving layup, making the score 60-51 in favor of Seton Hall.
- Seton Hall continued on a 9-0 run, which was ended by two straight made three-pointers courtesy of Scruggs. This made the score 67-57 and forced Seton Hall to take a timeout with 8:30 remaining.
- With 6:41 remaining, Naji Marshall knocked down a three-pointer from the right side, followed by a driving layup which gave Marshall his 1,000th career point, making the score 71-64 in favor of the Pirates.
- After being fouled on a three-point attempt, Marshall drained three free-throws to make the score 75-69. The Musketeers cut the deficit to four when Quentin Goodin finished a dunk off an assist from Scruggs, making the score 75-71 with just under 2:00 to play.
- Seton Hall connected on a fast break alleyoop dunk and two free-throws to make the score 79-71 with 1:25 to play. Two made layups and a blocked shot by the Pirates resulted in the 83-71 final score, giving Xavier their first home loss of the season.
- Marshall led the way for the Musketeers in the half with 13 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the floor. Scruggs and Jones combined for 22 points and eight rebounds in the second half.
- Xavier shot 13-of-31, 42 percent, from the floor in the half and connected on four three pointers in the half. The Musketeers scored seven points off turnovers in the second half.

- Tyrique Jones led the way in scoring for the Musketeers with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Jones was just one rebound away from a double-double.
- Paul Scruggs added 17 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 35 minutes of play.
- Jason Carter scored 14 points for the Musketeers in their first home loss, just two points shy of tying his Xavier career high.
- Naji Marshall scored 15 points in the contest and became the 54th player in Xavier history to score 1,000 career points. Marshall shot 100 percent from the free-throw line and added two rebounds, three assists and a steal in the game.
- The Musketeers are now 1-2 in BIG EAST Conference matchups this season.
- Xavier's 13-game home win streak has now ended.
