Tandy's Career Day Lifts Musketeers Past Rockets

The sophomore guard scored a career-high 24 points on Friday afternoon
CINCINNATI - Sophomore KyKy Tandy scored a career-high 24 points on Friday afternoon, leading the Musketeers to a 76-73 win over Toledo on the final day of the Xavier Invitational.
The Musketeers moved to 3-0 on the year, while the Rockets dropped to 1-2.
• Toledo jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage and led by as many as 12 points, 22-10, at the 10:34 mark. Xavier battled back with a 17-6 run on 8-for-12 shooting to get within one, 28-27, with 3:46 left in the half. The Rockets outscored Xavier, 10-7, in the closing minutes to take a four-point lead (38-34) into the locker room.
• KyKy Tandy led the Musketeers with 11 points in the half, while Bryan Griffin added six. Paul Scruggs added five points, six assists and four rebounds.
• Xavier held a 23-16 advantage on the glass, paced by Jason Carter who pulled down 10.
• Toledo outscored the Musketeers, 9-5, in the opening minutes to take an eight-point advantage (47-39) at the 15:30 mark. Xavier responded by going on a 13-4 run capped by a Jason Carter three pointer to take a 52-51 lead with 12:19 on the clock.
• The remainder of the game had three ties and four lead changes with the final tie (64-64) coming at the 2:59 mark. Xavier broke the tie by using a 5-1 run capped by a pair of KyKy Tandy free throws, taking a 70-65 lead with 1:01 left in regulation.
• Xavier never relinquished the lead and went 6-for-6 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.
• Paul Scruggs scored 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting in the half. Xavier was also 10-for-13 from the foul line.
• KyKy Tandy scored a career-high 24 points on 7-for-17 shooting. He was also 3-for-5 from behind the arc and 7-for-9 from the charity stripe. The sophomore guard added three rebounds and three assists.
• Paul Scruggs rounded out the double-figure scorers with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting. The senior guard added seven assists, six rebounds and four steals.
• Jason Carter added five points and a Xavier career-high 13 rebounds. Zach Freemantle chipped in nine points and four rebounds.
• Xavier and Toledo both grabbed 39 rebounds in the game. The Musketeers forced 13 turnovers, converting the miscues into 11 points. Xavier also held a 34-13 advantage in bench points.
