Gray Hits Career Milestone, Musketeers Top Wofford on Sunday Afternoon

The senior forward became the 25th member of the 1,000-point club
CINCINNATI - Senior forward A'riana Gray become the 25th member off the progam's 1,000-point club on Sunday afternoon as the Musketeers defeated Wofford, 70-64, at Cintas Center. Xavier moved to 2-0 on the year, while the Terriers dropped to 3-2.
• Wofford jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and led by three (13-10) at the 2:52 mark on a MaryMartha Turner layup. The Musketeers ended the quarter on a 6-2 run capped by an Ayanna Townsend layup in the closing seconds, taking their first lead of the game (16-15). Xavier finished the quarter by going 3-for-5 from the floor.
• Xavier opened the second frame by going on a 7-3 run capped by an A'riana Gray basket, taking a 23-18 advantage at the 5:58 mark. The Musketeers took their first double-figure lead of the game, 33-23, with 1:13 left in the half on a Sarah Leyendecker free throw. Following an Alexis Tomlin layup for the Terriers on the next possession, Carrie Gross drained a pair of free throws to give Xavier a 35-25 advantage to end the half.
• A'riana Gray led the Musketeers with 11 points, while Kae Satterfield had eight points. Xavier held a 33-24 advantage on the glass with Satterfield pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Gray and Sarah Leyendecker both added six rebounds.
• Xavier opened the second half by hitting 71.4 percent (5-for-7) of their shots, extending their lead to 50-35 at the 4:20 mark. The two teams exchanged baskets in the closing minutes before a Nia Clark jumper with 25 seconds on the clock gave the Musketeers a 54-39 advantage after three quarters. Nia Clark scored 13 points points in the third frame.
• Wofford scored four unanswered points to open the final quarter, forcing a Xavier timeout. The Terriers went 7-for-9 from the floor to open the quarter to engineer a 17-4 run, closing within two points (58-56) with 5:33 on the clock.
• Xavier responded with back-to-back baskets from Morgan Sharps and Kae Satterfield to extend their lead seven points (63-56) with 4:32 left in regulation. Wofford closed within three points twice down the stretch, and as late as the 1:09 mark (67-64) before the Musketeers sank three free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win.
• Nia Clark scored 15 points in the second half on 5-for-9 shooting. The Musketeers also held a 23-15 advantage on the background.
• Nia Clark led three Musketeers in double figures with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting. She was 3-for-4 from the foul line and and 2-for-3 from behind the arc.
• Kae Satterfield posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. She was 5-for-6 from the floor.
• A'riana Gray also posted a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds - her 27th career double-double.
• Morgan Sharps added eight points, while Aaliyah Dunham added a game-high five assists and four steals.
• Xavier held a 56-39 advantage on the glass. The 56 rebounds are the most by the Musketeers since pulling down 64 (2nd in school history) on Nov. 25, 2015 vs Southeastern Louisiana (W, 67-27). The 56 rebounds are also the most by a BIG EAST team this season.
• The Musketeers also held a 32-19 advantage in bench points and a one-point advantage in second-chance points (22-21).
• Xavier moved to 2-0 all-time vs Wofford. The Musketeers also improved to 21-0 in home openers at Cintas Cener.
