Sarah Leyendecker posted her second career double-double on Thursday, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds
CINCINNATI - Sarah Leynedecker and Kae Satterfield combined for 35 points on Thursday afternoon, leading the Musketeers to a 64-50 win over Providence. The Musketeers improved to 4-3 (1-2 BIG EAST), while the Friars dropped to 4-5 (2-2 BIG EAST).
• The opening quarter had five lead changes and one tie with neither team leading by more than four points. Providence led by one point (11-10) with 42 seconds on the clock before a Shaulana Wagner jumper in the closing seconds gave the Musketeers a 12-11 advantage at the end of the quarter. Wagner and Kae Satterfield led Xavier with four points each in the opening frame.
• Providence scored six unanswered points to open the second quarter before Ayanna Townsend hit a basket at the 8:01 mark, cutting Xavier's deficit to three points (17-14). The Townsend basket started a 10-5 Xavier run over the next six minutes, tying the game at 22. The final 1:24 of the half had two ties and two lead changes before a pair of Aaliyah Dunham free throws in the closing seconds gave the Musketeers a 28-27 halftime lead.
• Sarah Leyendecker led the Musketeers with eight points on 3-for-4 shooting with all eight points coming in the second quarter. She was also one of five players to pull down two rebounds in the half.
• Kae Satterfield added six points, while Shaulana Wagner and Ayanna Townsend both chipped in four points. Satterfield also had a team-high three assists.
• Providence held a 17-14 advantage on the glass, while the Musketeers scored 14 more points off of turnovers (16-2).
• Xavier opened the second half on a 10-3 run on 5-for-6 shooting, taking a 38-30 lead at the 7:28 mark. The Friars responded by closing the quarter on a 9-3 run to closing within two points (41-39).
• The Musketeers opened the final quarter on an 8-2 run capped by a Mackayla Scarlett three pointer, taking a 49-41 lead and forcing a Providence timeout. Xavier never relinquished the lead, outscoring the Friars, 23-11, in the quarter to pull away for the 64-50 win.
• Xavier hit 53.8 percent (7-for-13) of its shot attempts in the fourth quarter. Sarah Leyendecker scored 10 points in the quarter with seven rebounds. Lauren Wasylson knocked down two of the Musketeers three 3-pointers in the quarter.
