Satterfield Posts Double-Double; Musketeers Fall to Creighton on Sunday

The guard posted 12 points and 10 rebounds for her second career double-double
CINCINNATI - Kae Satterfield posted her second career double-double on Sunday afternoon as the Musketeers dropped a 53-50 contest with Creighton at Cintas Center. The guard scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Xavier moved to 4-4 (1-3 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays improved to 3-6 (2-3 BIG EAST).
• Xavier scored four straight points to open the game on back-to-back baskets by Shaulana Wagner and Courtney Prenger. The Musketeers led by four points (6-2) in the opening minutes before a 5-0 run by Creighton gave the Bluejays a 7-6 advantage, forcing a Xavier timeout at the 6:02 mark. The Bluejays outscored the Musketeers, 5-4, to end the frame - taking a two-point lead (12-10) in the the second quarter.
• Kae Satterfield hit the opening basket of the second quarter, tying the game at 12. The two teams exchanged leads four times in the quarter with neither team leading by more than three points. Xavier outscored Creighton, 6-4, to end the half and take a 25-24 advantage into the locker room. The Musketeers outscored Creighton, 15-12, in the second quarter.
• Kae Satterfield scored 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting with five rebounds at the break. Morgan Sharps chipped in five points. Xavier also held a 21-15 advantage on the glass.
• Creighton scored six unanswered points to open the half, taking a 30-25 advantage. Xavier responded with an 8-2 run capped by a pair of Sarah Leyendecker free throws, taking a 33-32 lead at the 5:06 mark. The two squads exchanged leads four more times in the frame with neither team leading by more than three points. A Lauren Wasylson three pointer with 29 seconds on the clock gave Xavier a 41-38 lead before Creighton hit a basket in the closing seconds to make it a one-point game (41-40).
• The Bluejays scored four unanswered points to start the fourth quarter, taking a 44-41 lead. Creighton hit five of its first seven shot attempts in the frame, building a 51-43 advantage at the 5:42 mark.
• Xavier battled back with a 7-2 run capped by a Lauren Wasylson three pointer with 30 seconds left in regulation, making the score 53-50. The Musketeer defense came up with two steals in the closing seconds to give Xavier a chance to tie the game, but both shot attempts fell short.
• Kae Satterfield finished the game with 12 points on 6-for-19 shooting. She added 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists.
• Morgan Sharps scored eight points on 3-for-5 shooting with a pair of three pointers. Lauren Wasylson added a pair of three pointers to go along with four rebounds.
• Ayanna Townsend chipped in six points and four rebounds. The forward added two blocks, increasing her career total to 55 - ranking 10th in career blocks at Xavier.
• Aaliyah Dunham finished with four points, four assists, three rebounds and two assists. Courtney Prenger added four points, five rebounds and three assists.
• Xavier went 8-for-10 from the foul line. The Musketeers have now hit 28 of their last 32 free throws.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 45-34. Creighton forced 17 turnovers, converting the miscues into 19 points.
• Defensively, Xavier limited the Bluejays to a season-low three 3-pointers. Creighton entered the game averaging 9.1 three pointers per game, ranking 22nd in the NCAA.
