Musketeers Fall at No. 13 DePaul on Sunday Afternoon

Junior A'riana Gray posted a team-high 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists vs the Blue Demons
CHICAGO - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 97-65 BIG EAST matchup at No. 13 DePaul on Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers dropped to 2-23 (1-13 BIG EAST) and the Blue Demons improved to 24-3 (14-1).
• Xavier opened the game with a basket from A'riana Gray before the Blue Demons scored 11 unanswered points to force a Xavier timeout. The Musketeers closed within six points (17-11) with 58 seconds left in the first quarter before DePaul closed the frame on a 6-2 run.
• The Musketeers opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run to get within two points (23-21) and force a DePaul timeout. Xavier got within two points a total of seven times in the frame, and as late as the 1:54 mark (39-37). Lexi Held converted a three-point play in the closing seconds to give the Blue Demons a 42-37 advantage at the break.
• Xavier hit 51.6 percent (16-for-31) of its shot attempts in the first half and held a 20-13 advantage on the glass. The Musketeers posted a .588 field-goal percentage (10-for-17) in the second quarter.
• A'riana Gray led the Musketeers with 12 points at halftime, while Carrie Gross added 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting. Gray was one of four Musketeers with four rebounds.
• DePaul opened the second half on a 10-2 run, taking a 52-39 advantage and forcing a Xavier timeout. Xavier closed within 10 points (57-47) on a Morgan Sharps three pointer at the 4:52 mark as the Musketeers started the quarter on 4-for-5 shooting.
• The Musketeers got within eight points (61-53) on a Morgan Sharps basket with 3:26 left in the third quarter. DePaul closed the frame on a 12-3 run, taking a 73-56 advantage into the final quarter.
• DePaul scored six unanswered points to open the fourth quarter, extending its lead to 79-56. The Blue Demons outscored Xavier, 24-9, in the final quarter to pull away for the win.
• Xavier posted a .481 field-goal percentage (26-for-54), its second-highest percentage of the season. The Musketeers also won the battle on the glass, 34-33.
• Junior A'riana Gray scored a team-high 20 points on 9-for-17 shooting. She also led the team on the glass with nine rebounds. The forward also dished out a career-high seven assists and posted two steals.
• Sophomore Carrie Gross scored a career-high 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting. She added four rebounds and an assist.
• Freshman Morgan Sharps added 13 points with three 3-pointers. She added two assists. Junior Aaliyah Dunham chipped in six rebounds, four points and four assists.
• Turnovers proved costly as the Musketeers had 26 miscues. DePaul held a 26-8 advantage in points off of turnovers.
• Xavier returns to action on Friday, Feb. 21 vs Providence. Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m. from Cintas Center.
