Women's Tennis Defeats Cleveland State for Second Win of Weekend

CLEVELAND - Xavier women's tennis picked up their second win on the weekend, topping Cleveland State, 7-0, in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon. Following the sweep, Xavier improves to 5-4 overall this season and has now won three concecutive matches.

The Musketeers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 29th when they take on Marquette in their first BIG EAST Conference matchup of the season. The match is set to begin at a time to be determined in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

THE MATCH

In doubles, Xavier took point on a 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot courtesy of Anna Roggenburk and Rachael Reichenbach. The Vikings forfeited the No. 3 doubles spot, giving Xavier the doubles point. Kaitlin Ruether and Ahmeir Kyle trailed, 3-4, in the No. 1 spot when the point was decided.

The Musketeers carried their momentum into singles play, as Roggenburk grabbed the first win in the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-0. Ruether gave Xavier their third point with a 6-0, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot, and Natalie Moyer secured the win with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 victory in the No. 5 spot. Kyle defeated Klara Mrcela of CSU, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5, in the No. 1 spot and Reichenbach closed out the match for the Musketeers with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 win in the No. 3 spot.

Cleveland State forfeited the No. 6 spot, giving Xavier their seventh and final point of the match.
