Musketeers Open Road Swing With Loss at Seton Hall

Freshman Morgan Sharps scored a team-high 15 points on Friday night
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 69-59 contest at Seton Hall on Friday night. The Musketeers moved to 3-25 (2-15 BIG EAST), while the Pirates improved to 17-11 (10-7 BIG EAST).
• Xavier jumped out to an early 7-2 run capped by an Aaliyah Dunham layup. The Musketeers led by as many as seven points (15-8) on a Morgan Sharps layup at the 4:39 mark. Seton Hall closed the first quarter on an 8-3 run to make the score, 18-16.
• The Musketeers opened the second frame on a 9-3 run, taking their largest lead of the half, 27-19, with 7:16 on the clock. Seton Hall responded with a 16-6 run to take a 35-33 lead with just under a minute left in the half. Lauren Wasylson sank three free throws after being fouled on a three-point shot as time expired, giving the Musketeers a one-point (36-35) lead.
• Morgan Sharps paced the Musketeers with 11 points at the break on 4-for-6 shooting with three 3-pointers. Lauren Wasylson added nine points, while Aaliyah Dunham chipped in two points and five assists.
• Seton Hall opened the second half on a 9-5 run, taking a 44-41 advantage at the media timeout (4:06). The Pirates outscored Xavier, 17-9, in the quarter to take a 52-45 advantage after three quarters of action.
• The Pirates scored five unanswered points to open the final frame, taking a 57-45 lead. Xavier responded with an 8-2 run to get within six points (59-53) with 3:33 left in regulation. The Musketeers got within six two more times down the stretch and as late as the 1:27 mark (63-57). Seton Hall pulled away by going 6-for-7 from the foul line to seal the 10-point win.

• Sophomore Lauren Wasylson scored 12 points to go along with four rebounds and one steal. Classmate Ayanna Townsend added 11 points, while A'riana Gray posted 10 points.
• Ayanna Townsend led the team on the glass with seven rebounds. Seton Hall won the battle on the glass, 32-31.
• Junior Aaliyah Dunham added a game-high seven assists to go along with four points and three steals. She now has 309 career assists to rank 10th all-time at Xavier.
• Redshirt-freshman Sarah Leyendecker had four points, two rebounds and a steal in seven minutes of action. Friday's game was her first game since Jan. 26 at Providence (missed time due to injury).
• Xavier wraps up regular-season action at St. John's on Sunday, March 1. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Carnesecca Arena.
