VP/AD Greg Christopher earned the Mike Cleary Organizational Leadership Award
CLEVELAND - Xavier Vice President for Administration and Director of Athletics Greg Christopher and the department's athletics compliance staff recently picked up awards from National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC).
Christopher was named the Mike Cleary Organizational Leadership Award recipient. The award is named after former NACDA Executive Director, Mike Cleary, and is given to an organizational leader (i.e., athletics director, general counsel, provost, president, commissioner, NCAA executive) who has demonstrated NCAA compliance leadership and a strong commitment to fostering a culture of compliance to NCAA rules within their organization.
Christopher was hired as director of athletics in 2013 and was promoted to vice president for administration and director of athletics in 2018. In this role, he serves on the president's leadership cabinet and oversees three university divisions.
Xavier's compliance staff of Leslie Fields and Jeff Poulard earned the inaugural Creative Education Award. The award is given to an athletics compliance department for their commitment to creativity and ingenuity in rules education throughout the academic year. The department must be able to demonstrate how its educational document is creative and helpful in explaining pertinent rules education to the selected group.
Xavier's compliance office picked up the honors for its transformation of the popular Netflix show 'Stranger Things' into 'Compliance Things', with the goal of 'Avoiding the Upside-Down i.e. Ineligibility.'Â
"Congratulations to Leslie Fields and her former partner in compliance, Jeff Poulard, as they were awarded with the "Creative Education Award" from the National Association for Athletics Compliance," said Christopher. "This is a new award from NAAC and its purpose is to highlight a compliance department for their commitment to creativity and ingenuity in rules education. As important as rules compliance is, we can all admit that it's not always as interesting as what we find on Netflix – which is exactly what Leslie and Jeff took care of last year, by theming their rules education around the show 'Stranger Things'. So now that Leslie has set a high bar, we look forward to seeing the sequel to last year's 'Compliance Things'."
