Musketeers Can't Overcome Slow Start at Seton Hall

Xavier falls to Pirates, 85-59, on Saturday afternoon
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier women's basketball dropped an 85-59 road game at Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 4-5 (1-4 BIG EAST), while Pirates improved to 8-3 (6-2 BIG EAST).
Xavier outscored Seton Hall, 43-41, in the second half but could not overcome its 44-16 halftime deficit.
• Seton Hall hit three of its first four shots of the game, taking a 9-3 lead and forcing a Xavier timeout at the 7:13 mark. The Pirates finished the first quarter with a .438 field-goal percentage, taking a 23-10 advantage after one quarter of action.
• Aaliyah Dunham led the Musketeers with five points in the opening frame. Xavier had nine turnovers and went 4-for-17 from the floor in the first quarter.
• Seton Hall scored five unanswered points to open the second quarter before Nia Clark hit her second three pointer of the game at the 7:13 mark, making the score 28-13. The Pirates outscored the Musketeers, 21-6, in the second frame to take a 44-16 advantage into the locker room.
• Nia Clark led Xavier in scoring with nine points on 3-for-6 shooting. Aaliyah Dunham added five points.
• Seton Hall held a 25-15 advantage on the glass and score 12 more points off of turnovers (17-5).
• Xavier got back-to-back baskets from Kae Satterfield and Nia Clark to open the half, outscoring the Pirates, 4-3, and forcing a Seton Hall timeout. The Musketeers' offense came alive in the third quarter as they finished the frame with 20 points, four more points than they scored in the entire first half. The Pirates were able to keep pace with the Xavier offense, outscoring the Musketeers, 24-20, in the period. Seton Hall led Xavier, 68-36, after three quarters of action.
• The Musketeers outscored Seton Hall, 23-17, in the final quarter. A total of 10 different Xavier players scored in the quarter.
• Xavier went 20-for-24 from the foul line in the second half after going 0-for-2 in the first half.
• Nia Clark led the Musketeers in scoring with 14 points on 5-for-12 shooting. The guard was 4-for-8 from behind the arc.
• Carrie Gross added seven points, while three other Musketeers (Aaliyah Dunham, Kae Satterfield and Deja Ross) added six points. Dunham had five of the Musketeers 11 steals, their fifth game of the year with 10 or more steals.
• Seton Hall held a 37-15 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Musketeers committed a season-high 28 turnovers in the loss.
• The Pirates also posted a 44-33 advantage in rebounds. Xavier scored one more second-chance point (11-10) and held a 26-18 advantage in bench points.
