Musketeers Post Four-Set Victory Over Bellarmine in Season Opener

Sophomore MaryAnn O'Toole posted a team-high 12 kills and 16 digs on Saturday
CINCINNATI - Sophomore MaryAnn O'Toole led the Musketeers to a season-opening win at Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon in four sets (25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 25-18).
Xavier moved to 1-0 on the year, while the Knights dropped to 1-2.

• The Knights led by as many as six points in the opening frame (15-9) before the Musketeers battled back to close within four points (22-18) late in the set. Xavier ended the set on a 7-1 run to capture the frame.
• Xavier scored six straight points to open the second frame and never trailed in the set. Norah Painter delivered the set point with a kill as the Musketeers posted a 25-19 victory.
• Bellarmine jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the third set, but the Musketeers battled back to close within four points (17-13) and force a Knights timeout. The Knights outscored the Musketeers, 8-4, down the stretch to win their first set of the day.
• The final set had six ties and two lead changes. Tied at 15, the Musketeers ended the frame on a 10-3 run capped by a MaryAnn O'Toole kill to win the match.

• MaryAnn O'Toole posted 12 kills and 16 digs, her fourth career double-double. The Louisville, Ky., native was one of four players with 10 or more digs.
• Freshman Delaney Hogan matched O'Toole for the team lead in kills in her Musketeer debut. The middle blocker added five bocks (four assist, one solo).
• Sophomore Carrigan O'Reilly added a team-high 38 assists to go along with 11 digs, five assists and three blocks. Classmate Alyssa Overbeck added 16 digs.
• Xavier held a 13-7 advantage in blocks and had three more assists (6-3) than the Knights. The Musketeers finished with a .227 hitting percentage, while limiting Bellarmine to a .161 clip.

• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 31 vs Marshall. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. at Cintas Center.
