Women's Soccer Remains on the Road to Face DePaul

Match set for Thursday at 4:00 PM ET
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer (12-1-1; 5-1-0 BIG EAST) closes out a two-match road trip at DePaul, facing the Blue Demons on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 4:00 p.m. ET. The Musketeers currently sit on top of the BIG EAST standings midway through the 10-game conference schedule.
Xavier returns home on Sunday, Oct. 17 to host Marquette at 1:00 p.m. in the first of two-straight home matches. The Musketeers will celebrate Senior Day prior to the match with the Golden Eagles.

 WEEKLY AWARDS |
- Following another 2-0 weekend for Xavier women's soccer, a pair of Musketeers earned weekly honors from the BIG EAST office. Chloe Netzel was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week while Grace Brauer earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced on Monday.
- Netzel, a freshman forward from St. Louis, played a part in both game-winning goals for the Musketeers last week, assisting on Ella Rogers' game winner against St. John's on Thursday, before scoring the game-winning goal in the 12th minute of a 4-0 victory at Seton Hall on Sunday. Netzel leads Xavier with 12 points off five goals and two assists on the year, with three of her five scores being game winners. This marks the second time she's been named Freshman of the Week.
- Brauer, a senior defender from Belleville, Ill., played the full time in both matches for the Musketeers, helping the Xavier defense earn back-to-back shutout wins last week, and push the streak to 360 minutes-straight without allowing a goal. The Musketeers outshot St. John's and Seton Hall by a combined 41-12, including 19-5 on goal.

- Xavier women's soccer's freshmen fueled a three-goal first half for the Musketeers on the way to a 4-0 win at Seton Hall on Thursday.
- Chloe Netzel, Shelby Sallee and Grace Menser each scored in the first 45 minutes to give Xavier a 3-0 lead at the break. The Musketeers had a 12-0 advantage on shots and 3-0 advantage on corners in the first half.
- Emma Marcus added another insurance goal about 15 minutes into the second half, and the Xavier defense held the Pirates scoreless, a fourth-straight shutout, to set the final score at 4-0.
- Chloe Netzel's first half goal, her team-high fifth of the season, was her third game-winner of the season. She now has 12 points.
- Shelby Sallee's goal was her fourth of the season. She also picked up an assist on Grace Menser's goal, her second of the season, to give her 10 points for the season.
- Grace Menser's goal was her first of her collegiate career to give her two points on the season.
- Emma Marcus scored her fourth goal of the season in the second half, combined with two assists to give her 10 point on the season.
- Sarah Owusu also picked up a point on an assist on Shelby Sallee's goal, her second helper of the season, combining with a goal to give her four points.
- Xavier finished with a 23-5 advantage on shots, led by seven shots by Sallee. Molly McLaughlin finished with four shots.
- Olivia Jenkins made two saves to keep the Pirates off the board, picking up the win to move to 12-1-1 with an eighth shutout.
- Hayley Jakovich and Grace Brauer played the full time for Xavier's defense to help preserve the clean sheet. The Musketeers have clocked 360 straight minutes without allowing a goal.

- Chloe Netzel added to her team-high point (12) and goal (5) total on Sunday, scoring the game-winner in the opening minutes of the 4-0 win at Seton Hall. She matches Emma Marcus for team-high on game-winning goals with three.
- Emma Marcus added a goal in the second half against Seton Hall to bring her season total to four, with three of those being game-winners. She has 10 points on the four goals with two assists.
- Shelby Sallee added an insurance goal for the Musketeers in the win over Seton Hall, her fourth of the season and third of BIG EAST play. She also picked up an assist on Grace Menser's goal in that match to bring her season totals to 10 points on four goals and two assists.

- Hayley Jakovich scored the game-winner against Creighton, her first goal of the season, third of her Xavier career, and her first game-winner as a Musketeer. She now has five points on three assists for the season.
- Molly McLaughlin scored her second goal of the season and 10th as a Musketeer on a PK against Villanova. Mathilde Rasmussen also has four points on a pair of goals for the season.
- Sarah Owusu assisted on Shelby Sallee's goal against Seton Hall to give her four points on a goal and two assists. Sonia Vargas also has four points on a goal and two assists.
- Carrie Lewis picked up an assist on Chloe Netzel's goal against Villanova, her team-high fourth of the season.
- Grace Menser scored her first collegiate goal in the first half at Seton Hall to bring her season total to two points.
- Elise Le picked up an assist on Chloe Netzel's goal against Loyola and she now has two points on a pair of assists.
- Olivia Lawson recorded an assist on Emma Marcus' game winner against Villanova for her first point of the season. Grace Brauer has also recorded a helper this season.
- Jakovich and Brauer have anchored Xavier's backline, playing the full time in all 14 matches so far, helping limit opponents to just seven goals through over 1290 minutes of action.
- Olivia Jenkins has made all 14 starts in frame, playing the full time in each match. She's collected 34 saves, including making a career-high seven against Providence, and has seven goals against for a GAA of 0.49 and a record of 12-1-1 with eight complete shutouts which lead the league. Jenkins' 12 wins are a new program record for wins in a single season for a Xavier goalkeeper.
- Xavier's seven goals allowed and 0.50 GAA for the season matches Georgetown for the league-best mark.
- The Musketeer defense has clocked 360-straight minutes without allowing a score.

- The Musketeers came in at No. 10Â in the most recent DI Women's Soccer RPI, leading four BIG EAST teams in the top 50Â for the week, Georgetown (11), Providence (19) and Butler (47).
- Xavier is currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll. The Musketeers moved up to a program-best ranking of 17 in week four (9/14/21) after going 2-0 against Ball State and Loyola Chicago the weekend before to move to 7-0 on the season.
- The Musketeers made their first appearance of the season in the USC National Poll in week three (9/7/21), entering the rankings at No. 23, marking the first time the Musketeers have been ranked in the USC National Poll since finishing the 2019 season at No. 24.Â
- Xavier also moved up to the No. 1 spot in the East region in week three, after being at No. 3 in the region for week two. The Musketeers remained at No. 1 in the region until week five, when Hofstra moved up to No. 1. Xavier is currently ranked No. 3 in the East Region.

- Xavier finished spring 2021 at 3-6 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST play, picking up wins over Bellarmine in the non-conference portion of the schedule, and BIG EAST wins over Creighton and DePaul, all three coming on the road.
- Following the spring season, two Musketeers earned all conference honors, All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, senior midfielder Molly McLaughlin, and All-Freshman Team member, forward Sonia Vargas.
- McLaughlin led the Musketeers with four points on two goals, while sophomore Grace Blumfeldt finished her rookie season with three point on a goal and an assist.
- After finishing fourth in the Midwest Division, the Musketeers missed the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in Nate Lie's tenure as head coach.

- The Musketeers return 26 letter-winners from the spring, including All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, senior midfielder Molly McLaughlin, and All-Freshman Team member, forward Sonia Vargas.
- Xavier's returners account for over 70 percent of the goals scored last season, led by McLaughlin's pair of tallies.
- The Musketeers added and 11-person freshman class for the fall after losing 11 letterwinners from spring 2021.
- Xavier was picked seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, collecting 45 points. Georgetown was picked to win the conference.
- Ahead of the start of the 2021 season, head coach Nate Lie announced additions to his staff. Katy Etelman joins Xavier as an assistant coach, while Tyler Smaha, who served as Xavier's Director of Player Development last season, also moves into the role of assistant coach. Jacob Morrison joins Xavier as the Director of Goalkeeping and Kaitlyn Jones joins Lie's staff as Director of Player Analysis/Operations.
