Cross Country Set for BIG EAST Championships

The meet is being held at the Northview Church XC Course in Carmel, Ind.
CINCINNATI - Xavier cross country travels to Indiana for the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, Oct. 29. The meet is being held at the Northview Church XC Course in Carmel, Ind.
The men's 8K race starts at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 11:50 a.m. The awards ceremony will start at approximately 12:40 p.m.
The broadcast of the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship Presented by JEEP is being produced by the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi available on FloSports. Matt Schumacker and Gab Kreuz will call the race.

• Xavier competed at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 15. The meet was held at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
• The women placed eighth (out of 37 teams) in the Red 6K Race, while the men took 16th (out of 31 teams) in the Red 8K Race.
• Rachel Butler paced the women's team with a second-place finish, posting a time of 20:40.20 - the fifth fastest 6K time in school history.
• Brady Harless led the men with a 24th-place finish, recording a time of 24:42.00 - the third fastest 8K time in school history. Paul Stamm placed 46th in a time of 24:56.40, the ninth fastest 8K time in program history.
• Rachel Butler has been the top finisher on the women's side in all three meets this fall. The soccer player turned cross country runner has three top-10 finishes this season, including the individual title at the Butler Twilight.
• Rachel Butler's 5K time (16:50.50) at the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 2 ranks second in program history, while her 6K time (20:40.20) at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 15 ranks fifth, respectively.
• Brady Harless has paced the men in two of the three meets this fall. His highest finish was fifth at the Greater Louisville Classic, posting an 8K time of 24:50.80. He shaved eight seconds off that 8K time at the Bradley Pink Classic, posting a time of 24:42.00 (third fastest time in program history).
• Freshman Paul Stamm has also had a successful season on the men's side. His 8K time of 24:56.40 at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 15 was the ninth fastest time in program history.
• The Musketeers only competed in one meet last season due to COVID-19 restrictions. Xavier raced at the BIG EAST Championships on March 5 at WakeMed Soccer Park Field in Cary, N.C.
• In women's cross country, Xavier returns three of its top-five finishers from a team that placed eighth at the 2021 BIG EAST Championships (Spring Season): Courtney Klatt (34th - 21:53.40), Hannah Russell (45th - 22:30.70) and Sarah Been (46th - 22:32.50).
• In men's cross country, Xavier returns four of its top-five finishers from a team that placed ninth at the 2021 BIG EAST Championships (Spring Season): Brady Harless (44th - 24:59.90), Lucas Houk (51st - 25:34.30), Noah Douthit (56th - 25:52.00) and Adrian Stuphan (59th - 26:10.30).
• Sam Burroughs was named the new head coach for cross country/track and field on Jan. 4, 2021. He joined the Musketeers after previously working as associate head coach at Cincinnati from 2013-20.
• Burroughs has over 20 years of collegiate experience. He has coached 96 individual conference champions and 45 individual NCAA qualifiers, while leading 18 teams to conference championship titles.
• Lauren Etheridge was named assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs in August of 2021. She was previously the head cross country coach at USC Aiken from 2019-21.
• In the spring of 2021, she guided the women's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Peach Belt Conference Championships – the team's highest finish since 2011. She restarted the program in 2019 after a one-year hiatus (the women did not have a team in 2018).
