
Swimming Heads to Cleveland for CSU Mangus Cup

Musketeers one of 10 teams competing at three-day event to close out Fall semester
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming will compete in the final full team event of the Fall this weekend, traveling to Cleveland to take part in the CSU Magnus Cup, running from Thursday, November 18 through Saturday, November 20. Prelims will begin at 9 AM every morning and finals are set to begin at 5 PM at Busby Natatorium.
Xavier is one of 10 schools competing at this year's event. XU last attended the Magnus Cup in November 2019, where the Musketeers women took the top spot, while the Xavier men finished second. The Magnus Cup is the final team event of the Fall semester for the Musketeers, select student-athletes will close out the semester at the Toyota US Open in Greensboro, N.C., running December 1-4.
Cleveland State will be hosting a donation drive during the meet, with the Vikings partnering with Socks and Clothes for Kids of Cleveland. The most requested donation items are school supplies and clothing, both child and adult size, everything must be new. Financial donations will be accepted as well.
Donation bins will be set up by the entrance of the natatorium and will be accepted throughout the entirety of the event. For more information about the organization go to sc4k.org.

- Xavier men's swimming collected five first place finishes at Denison, the final dual of the Fall.
- Xavier's men opened up the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.72.
- Daniel Stroh led Xavier in the 1000 free with a time of 10:17.75, placing fourth.
- Andrew Martin took the top spot in two events, taking the 100 free in a time of 45.78 and the 200 free with a time of 1:41.44.
- Jon Bernard picked up two second place finishes, with a time of 51.32 in the 100 back and a time of time of 2:05.02 in the 200 breast.

- Xavier women's swimming closed out the Fall duals with a win at Denison on October 31, winning eight events.
- The Musketeer women opened the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay, with Reese Turner, Lydia Schaeffer, Hannah Pugh and Kali Fischer taking first with a time of 1:45.76 and Brooke Atkins, Juilanne Libler, Kiara Anchrum and Molly Dynda taking second.
- Erin Ritz led Xavier in the 1000 free with a time of 11:01.16, taking third.
- Clare Bosse took third in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.81.
- Kali Fischer placed first in the 100 back with a time of 57.87.
- Kate Lair led the Musketeers in the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.55.

- The Musketeer men are looking for a four-peat in the BIG EAST after winning their third-straight BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship in Spring 2021.
- Xavier collected 11 event championships and had all-conference finishes in 17 events, eventually winning by over 170 points over second-place Villanova. Xavier won 11 of 18 racing events, including four of five relays.
- Returners Andrew Martin and Christian Thomas each won three individual gold medals. Following the meet, Andrew Martin was named Most Outstanding swimmer on the men's side.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Jon Bernard, Andrew Devine, Davis Klein, Roark Lundal, Joey Mullen, Jack Parker, Ben Quon, Cameron Weese, Brett Wilson and Ethan Wing also return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier added a sophomore transfer from Michigan State in Michael Benington, as well as a freshman class of Gage Hannewyk, Adam Lamping, Caleb Petranchuk, Ethan Saunders and Nathan Wall.

- The Musketeer women return seven who earned All-Conference honors for last season's third-place finishing team at the BIG EAST meet.
- Â Among the returners are Brooke Atkins and Kali Fischer who were part of the BIG EAST Championship winning 200 medley relay.Â
- Lydia Schaeffer, Clara Keiser, Emma Swabb, Erin Merke and Julianne Libler also picked up all-conference honors.
