Beeler Scores Game-High 23 Points, Musketeers Fall in Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout

Cincinnati defeated Xavier, 82-73, on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena
CINCINNATI - Shaila Beeler scored a game-high 23 points in Sunday's 82-73 loss at Cincinnati in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout at Fifth Third Arena.
Xavier dropped to 4-6 on the year, while the Bearcats improved to 5-4.
• Xavier opened the game on a 5-0 run capped by a Nia Clark three pointer. The Musketeers led 10-4 at the media timeout in the first quarter (4:38) behind seven points from Clark.
• The Musketeers scored four straight points coming out of the media timeout, taking their first double-figure lead of the game (14-4) at the 2:58 mark, forcing a Bearcat timeout. Cincinnati responded with an 8-0 run to close within two points (14-12) before Xavier outscored Cincinnati, 4-3, in the final minute to take an 18-15 advantage.
• Cincinnati outscored Xavier, 8-5, in the first four minutes of the second quarter, tying the game for the first time (23-23). The Bearcats took their first lead of the game, 31-30, at the 2:15 mark.
• Ayanna Townsend hit a jump shot as time expired in the first half, giving the Musketeers a 32-31 lead. The forward had a game-high eight rebounds at intermission to go along with four points.
• Shaila Beeler had a game-high 11 points at the break, while Nia Clark added 10 points. Xavier held a 27-18 advantage on the glass, while the Bearcats scored 11 more points off of turnovers (14-3).
• Xavier hit seven of its first nine shots of the second half, taking a 47-43 lead with five minutes on the clock. The Musketeers hit 64.3 percent (9-for-14) of their shot attempts in the frame, taking a 53-50 advantage into the final stanza.

The Musketeers were limited to a .200 field-goal percentage (3-for-15) in the final quarter, while the Bearcats hit 60 percent of their shot attempts (9-for-15). Cincinnati also went 14-for-18 from the foul line in the frame.
• Shaila Beeler scored a game-high 23 points on 7-for-15 shooting. The 23 points are also a career high for the guard. She was also 9-for-10 from the foul line, while adding five assists and four rebounds. Beeler now has four career double-figure scoring games.
• Nia Clark added 18 points on 5-for-11 shooting. The guard also had four rebounds and two assists. She now has 19 career double-figure scoring games.
• Ayanna Townsend posted nine points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Kae Satterfield finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 42-35. Cincinnati forced 20 turnovers, converting the miscues into 18 points. The Bearcats also held a 14-12 advantage in second-chance points and scored 34 more bench points (43-9).
• Xavier held a 13-7 advantage in fastbreak points. The game featured five ties and five lead changes.
• Xavier closes non-conference action on Sunday, Dec. 19 vs Southeast Missouri. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. ET from Cintas Center.
