Courteau comes to Xavier from West Virginia
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced the addition of transfer Anne-Sophie Courteau to the roster for Spring 2022. Courteau comes to Xavier from West Virginia, where she collected over 75 combined wins in four seasons, including 44 singles wins and 34 doubles wins.
"I'm excited to welcome Anne-Sophie to the Xavier tennis family," said Matthews. "She had a great career at WVU and brings a lot of experience to our team. She has a strong forehand and is a tough competitor. Our team definitely got better today in our quest to compete for another BIG EAST Championship."
In spring 2021, she picked up a pair of wins in West Virginia's shortened season, playing primarily in the No. 5 spot. Her wins included a three-set win against VCU to help the Mountaineers take the 4-3 match win, as well as a 6-2, 6-0 win over No. 41 TCU in Big 12 action.
During the shortened 2019-20 season, she collected 28 wins including the fall tournament season, finishing with a team-best record of 28-16 combined. Among those were 14 singles wins, including four playing in the No. 1 or No. 2 spot in the shortened dual season. Courteau also had 14 doubles wins, including five wins in dual action partnered with current Musketeer Kat Lyman in the No. 1 spot before the season was canceled. She and Lyman also partnered together in the fall, becoming the first Mountaineers to play in the ITA Atlantic Regional Main Draw since 2013.
In her sophomore season in 2018-19, Courteau led the Mountaineers with a 37-27 combined record through the Fall and the Spring. She finished with a team-high 19 singles wins, including 12 in dual action. She matched for team-high in doubles wins with 18, picking up 10 wins during the dual season. As a freshman in 2017-18, she finished with a combined 21 wins. Courteau picked up nine wins in singles action, including four playing in the No. 2 spot in dual play. She also collected 12 doubles wins, including seven in the Spring season.
During her time at West Virginia, she was named WVU Most Valuable Player, and earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors.
Originally from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, she attended University of Nebraska High School. She is the daughter of Daniel Courteau and Marie-France Mercier, and has two brothers. Her brother Philippe played tennis at Lander University.
