CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball picked up its first BIG EAST win of the season, defeating Butler, 77-55, on Wednesday afternoon at Cintas Center.
Xavier only had seven players dressed for the contest due to health and safety protocols.
• Xavier hit 50 percent (5-for-10) of its shot attempts to open the game, taking a 12-7 lead at the first media timeout (4:48). The Musketeers outscored the Bulldogs, 5-4, to end the frame - taking a 16-12 advantage.
• Butler outscored Xavier, 8-4, in the early minutes of the second frame - tying the game at 20-20 with 7:03 on the clock. The Musketeers responded by closing the half on a 17-7 run with seven points coming from Kae Satterfield. Xavier led, 37-27, at the break.
• Kae Satterfield led Xavier with 12 points and five rebounds at halftime, while Mackayla Scarlett added 11 points. Shaila Beeler added eight assists.
• Butler opened the half by outscoring Xavier, 12-6, to close within four points (43-39). Xavier scored nine unanswered points to take a 52-39 advantage with 2:51 left in the third quarter. The Musketeers outscored Butler, 7-4, to end the stanza and take a 59-43 advantage.
• Butler hit a three pointer on its first possession of the final quarter, closing within 13 points (59-46) - but the Musketeers scored four straight points to push their lead to 17 points (63-46). Xavier never relinquished its double-figure lead and led by as many as 25 points (77-52) with 15 seconds left in regulation on a Mackayla Scarlett jumper.
• Megan Harkey scored all 11 of her points in the second half, while adding seven rebounds.
• Kae Satterfield scored a career-high 18 points, while pulling down nine rebounds - just shy of her sixth career double-double.
• Mackayla Scarlett scored a career-high 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting. She added five rebounds and three assists.
• Ayanna Townsend had 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting. She added three rebounds.
• Megan Harkey posted her first career double-double, scoring a career-high 11 points and grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds. She added a career-high three blocks to go along with two steals in 23 minutes of action off the bench.
• Shaila Beeler added eight points and a career-high 11 assists. The 11 assists are tied for the most assists by a player in the BIG EAST this season.
• Mikayla Hayes posted eight points and seven rebounds, while Courtney Prenger chipped in six points and five rebounds.
• Xavier knocked down a season-high six three pointers, paced by Mackayla Scarlett who had four. The Musketeer also finished the game going 11-for-14 from the charity stripe.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 41-38, and scored 16 more points off of turnovers (19-3). Xavier also held a 26-12 advantage in second-chance points. The Musketeers had seven more steals (9-2) than the Bulldogs.
• The win snapped a five-game losing streak in the series with Butler.
• Xavier continues BIG EAST action on Sunday, Jan. 2 vs Creighton. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. ET from Cintas Center.
