Hayes Posts Double-Double, Musketeers Fall to Creighton on Sunday Afternoon

The center recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds
CINCINNATI - Mikayla Hayes posted her first career double-double on Sunday afternoon, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Musketeers dropped a 67-51 contest vs Creighton at Cintas Center.
Xavier moved to 6-7 (1-3 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays improved to 9-3 (4-0 BIG EAST).
Xavier only had seven players dressed for the contest due to health and safety protocols for the second time in as many games.
• Creighton jumped out to an early 12-5 lead before the Musketeers engineered a 9-0 run, taking a two-point lead (14-12) with 1:37 left on the clock. Carly Bachelor hit a basket in the closing minute of the first quarter to tie the game at 14-14.
• The Bluejays outscored Xavier, 9-4, to open the second stanza - taking a 28-21 lead. Kae Satterfield scored four unanswered points to end the half, getting the Musketeers within two points (28-26).
• Mackayla Scarlett led Xavier with eight points at the break, while Mikayla Hayes added seven points and seven rebounds. Both teams had 20 rebounds in the first half.
• Xavier tied the game three times early in the third quarter. Tied at 35-35 with 6:54 on the clock, Creighton closed the stanza on an 18-6 run, taking a 53-41 lead. The Bluejays went 6-for-12 from the floor during the run with all six made baskets coming from behind the arc.
• An Ayanna Townsend layup on Xavier's second possession of the final quarter got the Musketeers within 10 points (53-43). Creighton responded with a 5-0 run, taking a 58-43 advantage.
• The Bluejays never relinquished their double-figure lead and outscored the Musketeers, 14-10, in the final quarter - pulling away for the 67-51 victory. Creighton moved to 4-0 in BIG EAST action.
• Mikayla Hayes posted her first career double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down a career-high 10 rebounds. She was 5-for-9 from the floor and hit her first three pointer of the season in the loss.
• Shaila Beeler scored 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting with nine of her points coming in the second half. She added three assists and one rebound.
• Mackayla Scarlett had 11 points, two rebounds and one assist. Kae Satterfield finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
• Xavier had 11 steals in the game, its fourth game with double-figure steals this season. Courtney Prenger led the Musketeers with a game-high four steals.
• The Musketeers went 12-for-13 from the free-throw line, increasing their season free-throw percentage to 78.8 percent.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 37-34, and scored six more points in the paint (24-18). Creighton held a 25-12 advantage in points off of turnovers and scored two more second-chance points (13-11).
• Xavier plays the first of three straight BIG EAST road games on Friday, Jan. 7 at St. John's.
