Men's Basketball Heads To Oklahoma State For Tough Sunday Test

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 6-1, head to Stillwater, Oklahoma, this weekend for a Sunday clash with the Oklahoma State University Cowboys, 6-2, as part of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. This is the first meeting between the two schools. Xavier is 2-0 in the annual BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle matchups.
Oklahoma State had a five-game winning streak snapped by Wichita State on Wednesday night. The Cowboys boast the No. 7 ranked defense in the latest KenPom rankings and their field goal percentage defense (.367) is ranked 16th in the nation in the latest NCAA rankings.
Xavier, 32nd in the Associated Press Poll (seventh among "others receiving votes"), is coming off a 78-45 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday behind a game-high 24-point effort from senior Nate Johnson.

• Xavier, 6-1, is coming off its second straight win, a 78-45 victory over Central Michigan on Wednesday at Cintas Center.
• Xavier's balanced lineup has four players averaging in double figures in scoring led by senior Nate Johnson at 14.6 ppg.
• Xavier's Nate Johnson, who made the NIT Season Tip-Off All-Tournament Team and this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll, scored a collegiate career-high 30 points on 10-14 shooting, including 7-11 3-pointers, in the win over Virginia Tech on Nov. 26, and followed that up with a game-high 24 points vs. Central Michigan on Dec. 1.
• Xavier junior Jack Nunge is third on the team in scoring at 11.7 ppg., including his collegiate career-high 24-point game vs. Iowa State on 9-11 shooting, and is second on the team in rebounding at 7.7 rpg. (tied for eighth in the BIG EAST), including his second collegiate career-high 14-rebound game of the season vs. Virginia Tech.
• Xavier senior Paul Scruggs, 2021-22 preseason All-BIG EAST First Team, is in the top 25 on Xavier's all-time scoring list with 1,323 points and the top 10 on Xavier's all-time assist leaders chart with 406.
• Xavier sophomore Colby Jones leads the BIG EAST in rebounding (9.3 rpg.) and is second on the team in scoring (12.0 ppg.), assists (3.3 apg.) and steals (1.5 spg.). He has recorded double-doubles in points-rebounds in two of his last three games.
• Xavier junior Zach Freemantle, who led XU in scoring at 16.1 ppg. and rebounding at 8.9 rpg. last season, played his first six minutes of the season against Central Michigan. He had been sidelined following foot surgery.
