Colby Jones Named BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week

Jones has won the award twice this season.

CINCINNATI --- Xavier University guard Colby Jones has been named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time since the start of league play. Jones averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.0 steals for Xavier's two games this past week, while shooting 64.7 percent from the field.

Jones, who also won the award on Jan. 11, scored a career-high 20 points at St. John's on Jan. 16 on 6-9 shooting to go with six rebounds. He grabbed a career highs of 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals in the Butler win on Jan. 21 to go with his 13 points.

Jones, who has missed six games due to Covid protocols, earned his way back into the starting lineup against Butler on Sunday. Jones has played in 10 games, starting six times, while averaging 8.2 ppg., 4.6 rpg. and 2.8 apg. in 24.7 minutes per game.

Xavier, 12-4 overall and 5-4 in the BIG EAST Conference, plays at Providence on Wednesday.
