Xavier Defeats Crosstown Rival Cincinnati in Four Sets on Saturday

Sophomore Carrigan O'Reilly led the Musketeers with 40 assists, 13 digs and nine kills
CINCINNATI - Xavier volleyball defeated crosstown rival Cincinnati in four set (25-12, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena. Both teams moved to 2-2 on the year following the match.
The win snapped Xavier's five-match losing streak in the series. The win over the Bearcats is the team's first win in the series since a three-set win on Aug. 30, 2014 at Cintas Center. It was also Xavier's first road win in the series since Oct. 22, 2013.

SET ONE
Xavier opened the set by scoring 12Â of the first 14Â points of the match and led by as many 13 points (17-4) midway through the frame. The Musketeers kept up the strong performance, pulling away for a 25-12 victory.
Xavier posted six total team blocks in the frame, while limiting the Bearcats to zero blocks. The Musketeers hit .321 with only one attacking error. Seven different Musketeers posted a kill.
SET TWO
Tied at seven, the Musketeers went on a 6-2 run to take a 13-9 lead and force a Bearcat timeout. Xavier never relinquished the lead and pulled away for a 25-20 win. The Musketeers hit .348 in the set. Carrigan O'Reilly had four kills, 11 assists and six digs in the set.
SET THREE
The third set featured 13 ties and five lead changes with neither team leading by more than three points. Tied at 24, the Bearcats got back-to-back kills from Sarah Norcom to capture their first set of the day.
SET FOUR
The final set had four ties and one lead change. Tied at seven, The Musketeers went on an 8-4 run to take a 15-11 advantage. The Bearcats closed within one point twice down the stretch before the Musketeers scored six of the final eight points of the match, capturing the frame - 25-20.

• Three Musketeers had 10 or more kills in the match, paced by freshman Delaney Hogan who had 12 kills. The middle blocker added a .522 hitting percentage and four blocks.
• MaryAnn O'Toole and Norah Painter both chipped in 10 kills. O'Toole added 16 digs for her sixth career double-double.
• Carrigan O'Reilly nearly missed a triple-double as the sophomore setter finished with a team-high 40 assists to go along with nine kills and 14 digs. She added three blocks. O'Reilly now has six career double-doubles.
• Lauren Hanlon finished with nine kills, while Ellie Chaffee posted a match-high nine blocks - matching her career high in blocks.
• Alyssa Overbeck had 16 digs, while Kelly Franxman posted 11 digs, four assists and two kills.
• Xavier posted a season-high .329 hitting percentage. The Musketeers also held a 16-1 advantage in total team blocks. The 16 blocks are the most in a match for the Musketeers since recording 18.5 blocks at Georgetown on Oct. 5, 2019.
