Xavier Baseball Announces 2021 Schedule

Musketeers get season started Friday, February 19 at Texas A&M
CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball head coach Billy O'Conner announced the spring 2021 schedule, opening play on Friday, February 19 at Texas A&M. The Musketeers are scheduled to play 14 opponents, including four-game match-ups with all seven BIG EAST opponents, as Xavier prepares for the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
The Musketeers will open home play on Saturday, March 20 against UC, hosting the Bearcats for games three and four of a four-game series. The 2021 schedule also features 11 double-headers, including four at Hayden Field.
Xavier was 5-10 in 2020 when the remainder of the season was called off due to COVID-19. At the time the season was canceled, Xavier had played the second-toughest strength of schedule in the country, playing seven games against top-20 opponents.Â

- Xavier will open the season with a three-game series against the Aggies, opening at Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET, with a game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET and closing the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
- Texas A&M was 15-3 and ranked No. 21 in the country when the 2020 season was canceled.
- This will be the first time the two programs face off.
WOFFORD

- Xavier will face Wofford in a four-game series, opening on Friday with a double-header on Saturday. The series will conclude on Sunday.Â
- Wofford was 14-3 when the 2020 season was called off, closing out the year with a 4-3 win over No. 14 ranked Auburn.
- Xavier is 1-3 all-time against the Terriers, with the last match-up occurring in 2018, a 16-2 loss for the Musketeers in Spartanburg.

Auburn, Ala.
- The Musketeers will face the Tigers in four games over three days, opening on Friday and playing a double-header on Saturday before wrapping up the series on Sunday.Â
- Auburn was 13-5 at the conclusion of last season, and ranked No. 14 in the country. The Tigers return a pair of Preseason All-Americans infielders in Ryan Bliss and Rankin Woley, who were both named to the Third Team by Collegiate Baseball.
- Xavier is 0-3 against Auburn all-time, with all three match-ups coming during a three -game series in March 2015.
MERCER
March 12-14Â Â Â
Macon, Ga.
- Xavier will face the Bears in a four-game series running Friday through Sunday, with a double header set for Saturday.Â
- Mercer was 13-3 when the 2020 season was called off. The Bears were coming off a 2019 season where they claimed the SoCon Tournament title and earned an NCAA Tournament bid.
- The Musketeers are 1-4 all-time against the Bears, last facing off in a three-game series in 2016.
CINCINNATI
March 18-21
Cincinnati, Ohio / Hayden Field
- Xavier and Cincinnati will play a four-game series running from Thursday through Sunday. The first two games will be played at UC Baseball Stadium and the series will close out at Xavier's Hayden Field on Saturday and Sunday, the Musketeers' first home games of 2020.Â
- Cincinnati was 7-8 when the 2020 season was called off. The two teams were set to meet last March.Â
- UC closed out 2019 by going 4-0 in the AAC tournament, and earning the program's first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1974. Cincinnati opened NCAA Tournament play with a 7-6 win over Oregon State, but fell to eventual national runners-up, Michigan, and Creighton to bring the Bearcats' season to a close in the Corvallis Regional.
- Xavier is 43-66 all time against Cincinnati after splitting the 2019 season series, 2-2. The Bearcats claimed a 2-1 win in April in the Joe Nuxhall Classic before Xavier took 2-of-3 in regular season-closing series, including wins at Cincinnati, and at Great American Ballpark in the regular season finale.

- The Musketeers travel to Evansville for four games, starting Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET Games two and three will be played on Saturday, starting at 1:00 p.m. ET, and the final game is set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
- Evansville was 5-11 in 2020 when the remainder of the season was called off. The Purple Aces' wins included a three-game sweep of BIG EAST foe Butler.
- Xavier is 16-27 against the Purple Aces all-time. The last time the two programs faced off was a three-game series in March 2019, with the Musketeers taking two of three.
DAYTON
April 1-3Â Â Â Â
Hayden Field / Dayton, Ohio
- Xavier and Dayton will play a four game series from Thursday through Saturday, with games one and two being played at Hayden Field, both set for 3:00 p.m., and the final two games set for Saturday at Dayton, with the double-header set to start at noon.
- Dayton ended 2020 at 6-8. The Musketeers and Flyers had a pair of games set for April that were canceled.
- UD finished 2019 at 32-26-1 overall and 16-8 in Atlantic 10 play, earning the No. 3 seed in the A10 Tournament. The Flyers picked up three wins in the A10 Tournament, but fell twice to Fordham to end the 2019 season.
- Xavier is 91-46-1 all-time against the Flyers, with the last match-up happening in 2015, an 18-9 win for the Musketeers in Cincinnati.
ST. JOHN'SÂ *
April 9-11Â
Queens, N.Y.  Â
- Xavier opens BIG EAST play against the Red Storm, a four-game series running Friday through Sunday with a double header on Saturday.
- St. John's finished 2020 with a 5-9 record, including a win over No. 19 Georgia Tech and a pair of wins over California.
- In 2019, St. John's finished 31-23, with the season ending in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals where the Red Storm fell to Xavier, 11-3, with a spot in the BIG EAST Championship series on the line. That was the last match-up between the two schools.Â
- The Musketeers went 3-2 against the Red Storm in 2019, winning 2-of-3 during the regular season series and splitting a pair of games in the BIG EAST Championship. Xavier is 10-14 all time against the Red Storm.
April 16-18Â Â
Hayden Field
- Xavier will host the Bulldogs for its four games in the first BIG EAST home series of the season, starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with a double header on Saturday at noon and the final game of the four game series set for noon on Sunday.
- Butler was 8-7 in 2020 when the season was canceled. The two teams were set to face off in late April.
- Butler finished 2019 at 26-26 overall and 6-11 in BIG EAST play to finish just behind Georgetown in sixth place in the final standings, not earning a bid to the BIG EAST Tournament.
- Xavier is 59-33 all-time against at Butler after going 2-0 against the Bulldogs in 2019Â in a rain-shortened series.
CONNECTICUT *
April 23-25
Hayden Field
- The Musketeers will host UConn for the first BIG EAST series between the two programs, four games running Friday through Sunday, with series opener starting at three and Saturday's double header and Sunday's finale starting at noon.
- The Huskies were 8-5 when the 2020 season ended, including taking three of four games played against top-10 Michigan.
- Connecticut returns to the BIG EAST after spending the last seven seasons in the American Athletic Conference. UConn has won three BIG EAST Tournament Championships, including in 2013, the program's last year in the conference.
- Xavier is 0-1 all time against the Huskies with the last match-up occurring in 2012, a 7-2 win for UConn in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
VILLANOVA *
April 30 - May 2
Villanova, Pa.        Â
- Xavier travels to Villanova to play a four-game series opening Friday, April 30 and running through Sunday, May 2, with a double header on Saturday.
- The Wildcats were 9-5 when the 2020 season ended, including winning four straight before the remainder of the schedule was called off.
- In 2019, VU was 13-38 overall and 4-13 in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers went 2-0 against the Wildcats in last series between the two, with the third game of the series canceled due to weather.Â
- Xavier is 12-6 all-time against Villanova.
May 7-9
Hayden Field Â
- Xavier will host the Pirates for four games, opening play on Friday at 3:00 p.m., then kicking off a double-header Saturday at noon. The final game of the series is set for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
- The Pirates went 6-8 during the 2020 season before the remainder was called off, including the three-game series against Xavier in South Orange, N.J. scheduled for May.
- Seton Hall went 25-28 overall in 2019, with a 9-9 record in BIG EAST play, losing a tie-breaker with St. John's to take the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- Xavier is 9-11 against the Pirates after going 2-2 against SHU in 2019. The Pirates took the regular season series 2-1, but Xavier pulled even in the season series with a win in the consolation bracket of the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament to eliminate the Pirates.
GEORGETOWN *
May 14-16Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Hayden Field
- Xavier hosts Georgetown for a four-game series that opens Friday at 3:00 p.m. with a double header on Saturday at noon and the final game of the four game series set for noon Sunday.
- The Hoyas were 4-13 when last season was called off. Xavier was set to travel to face the Hoyas in April 2020.
- Georgetown tabbed Edwin Thompson to lead the Hoyas in September, replacing long-time coach Pete Wilk. Thompson spent the previous five seasons as head coach at Eastern Kentucky.
- The Hoyas finished 2019 at 22-34 overall and 7-11 in BIG EAST play, finishing in fifth place in the league and not earning a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- Xavier is 12-6 all-time against the Hoyas after sweeping GU in a three-game series at Hayden Field in 2019.
CREIGHTON *
May 20-22Â Â Â
Omaha, Neb.   Â
- Xavier travels to Omaha to close out the regular season with four game series against the Bluejays. The series opens on Friday, with a double-header on Saturday and the final game on Sunday.
- The Bluejays were 5-10 when last season was canceled. Xavier was set to host Creighton in mid-April.
- Creighton finished the 2019 season at 41-13 overall and 14-4 in BIG EAST play, narrowly edging out the Musketeers for the top spot in the regular season standings. Creighton won the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament to claim the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, going to the Corvallis Regional where the Bluejays eliminated defending champions Oregon State before being eliminated by eventual runners-up Michigan.
- Xavier is 11-13 all-time against the Bluejays, including going 2-2 against CU in 2019. Xavier claimed the regular season series, 2-1, in Omaha, but Creighton won the final match-up, in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship Series, to claim the conference title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
