The Musketeers return to the road to face DePaul on Sunday

CINCINNATI - After falling behind on a Creighton goal in the first half, Xavier women's soccer challenged for an equalizer in the second half but were unable to score, falling 1-0 to the Bluejays at the XU Soccer Complex. Xavier moves to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in BIG EAST play.

In a match that was moved up to 9:00 a.m. from its original start time of 1:00 p.m. to avoid rain, Xavier's offense started slowly, getting out-shot 5-2 in the first half. Creighton found the back of the net in the 26th minute on a shot from just outside the box to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Musketeers came out after halftime as the aggressors on offense, holding a 9-4 advantage on second-half shots, including a flurry of shots from the box where two attempts bounced off the crossbar, and earning five corner kicks to one for Creighton in the second 45 minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer, falling, 1-0.

Xavier returns to action this weekend, traveling to Chicago to face DePaul on Sunday, March 28, with first touch set for 2:00 p.m. ET.

NOTABLE

Xavier held an 11-9 advantage on shots overall, but Creighton create six looks on frame to just a pair for the Musketeers.
Molly McLaughlin recorded a pair of shots, with one on-frame, playing all but two minutes of the outing. Jackie Richards and Hayley Jakovich also finished with a pair of shots each.
Maddie Thiss and Gabrielle LoPresti each recorded shot in the second half, with both would-be equalizers going off the crossbar.
Sonia Vargas, Emily Burton and Mackenzie Tucker each recorded a shot as well.
Xavier held a 7-3 advantage on corners.
Olivia Jenkins played the full time in frame, making five saves with one goal against.
Hayley Jakovich also played the full time for Xavier's defense.
