Nunge posted career-high 18-point games vs. Ohio State and Michigan State this past season.
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University Sedler Family Men's Head Basketball Coach Travis Steele announced today that he has received a signed athletics aid agreement from Jack Nunge, a 6-11, 245-pound forward, who is transferring to Xavier from the University of Iowa.
Â
"We are thrilled to add Jack Nunge to the Xavier Family," said Steele. "Jack will provide the physicality and size that we sorely need in the BIG EAST Conference. He has a tremendous skill set that will allow him to play all over the floor. Jack has been a part of a really good University of Iowa team. I love the fact that he comes from a winning program. He is also a terrific young man."
Â
Nunge, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, averaged 7.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.9 blocks and 15.9 minutes a game in 22 games this past season before suffering a knee injury on Feb. 25 at Michigan and missing Iowa's last seven games. Nunge scored a career-high 18 points twice this past season, including 18 points and six rebounds vs. Ohio State and 18 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and a career-high tying six assists in the win at Michigan State. He also scored a career-high 18 points his freshman season in a game at Ohio State.
Â
Nunge played in all 33 games as a freshman in the 2017-18 season, starting 14 times and ranking fifth on the team in scoring (5.7 ppg.) and second in blocked shots (25). After using a redshirt year in 2018-19, Nunge started the first five games of the 2019-20 season, including his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Oral Roberts. He suffered a season-ending ACL-injury vs. Cal Poly in his fifth start and was granted a medical hardship waiver.
Prior to his time at Iowa, Nunge was an Indiana All-Star at Newburgh (Ind.) Castle High School and sparked his team to a berth in the Class 4A Semistate as a senior where it lost to eventual state champion Indianapolis Ben Davis. He averaged 22.8 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as a senior while being named First Team All-State and All-Metro (Evansville) Player of the Year.
