Musketeers fall 4-1 after taking the doubles point

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier men's tennis' season came to a close on Friday afternoon as the Musketeers fell, 4-1, to St. John's in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals.

Xavier finishes the season at 2-12 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

THE MATCH

Xavier jumped out to a 1-0 lead after picking up the doubles point. Srdan Pejic and Cambell Nakayama took the 6-1 win on the No. 2 court and Brett Winters and Matthew Graft sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court. Jan Vrba and Shashank Reddy trailed 4-3 on the No. 3 court when the point was decided.

After Xavier went ahead 1-0, St. John's picked up four singles decisions in two sets to take the win. The Red Storm took a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 6 court against Shashank Reddy to tie the match, then took a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 3 court against Jan Vrba to take the lead.

A 6-2, 6-1 win against Matthew Graft on the No. 4 court put the Red Storm up 3-1. On the No. 5 court, St. John's took the decision against Cambell Nakayama after the match was retired at 6-3, 5-2 to go ahead 4-1 and seal the win.

When the match was decided, Brett Winters was in a fourth set, trailing 4-1 after splitting the first two sets, 6-3, 2-6, on the No. 1 court.
Srdan Pejic trailed 6-4, 5-4 on the No. 2 court when the match was decided.
