Jennings has logged 12 years as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University Vice President and Director of Athletics Greg Christopher announced the promotion of Matt Jennings to Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning. Jennings, who just completed his 12th year as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, will focus on development of the XU Athletics Strength and Conditioning Department for all 18 NCAA Division I sports.
"The opening of the new strength area in the Heidt Family Champions Center combined with the state-of-the-art facility in Cintas Center provide us enormous potential for growth in a critical area for our student-athlete performance," said Christopher. "I am looking forward to having Matt provide the leadership and direction necessary to maximize this opportunity."
"I am excited about the new challenge," said Jennings. "I appreciate the support of Greg Christopher and the administration, entrusting me with this tremendous responsibility. Most importantly, I look forward to continuing my service to the Student-Athletes and the mission of Xavier University."
Jennings' previous experience includes time as a strength coach at Wake Forest University, the University of South Carolina and High Point University in addition to a graduate assistant position at the University of Tennessee and an internship with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He came to Xavier from High Point University, where he had been the head strength and conditioning coach since June of 2007.
Jennings, who was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., received a bachelor of arts degree in physical education and exercise sports science from North Carolina in 1996. Jennings also was a two-year member of the Tar Heel football team. Jennings completed a master's degree in sport administration from Tennessee in 1998. He is a member of the CSCCA (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association) and holds the certification of MSCC (Master Strength and Conditioning Coach).
With the additional responsibilities required with his promotion, Jennings will lead a national search for a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Basketball.
