Men's Swimming Wins Three Events, Extends Lead on Day Three of BIG EAST Championships

Xavier women collect four bronze medals, move into third place
GENEVA, Ohio – Xavier men's swimming collected three event titles to extend their hold on first place going into the final day of the 2021 BIG EAST Championships, while Xavier's women moved up to third place, collecting four bronze medals for the day.
The Musketeer men entered the day with an 11 point lead, and used 21 finals swims to extend that lead, including three event wins, in the 200 free for Andrew Martin, in the 100 back for Christian Thomas, and the 400 medley relay for Alex Sironen, Roark Lundal, Joey Mullen and Thomas, as well as five other top-three finishes. The Musketeers head into the final day with a 77 point lead on second place Villanova.
Xavier's women had 19 qualify for finals swims, including nine Championship final swims, collecting four bronze medals on the day to help the Musketeers move past Seton Hall in the standings into third place headed into the final day. Taylor Hogan had a third and fourth place finals finish, and Clara Keiser and Kali Fischer each collected a bronze as well. Xavier wrapped up the night with a third-place finish for Brooke Atkins, Julianne Libler, Hogan and Fischer in the 400 medley relay.
The 2021 BIG EAST Championship is set to wrap up on Satuday, with prelims set for 10 a.m.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE |
- Taylor Hogan lead a trio of Musketeers in the Championship final of the 400 IM with a fourth place finish. Kate Lair finished sixth and Alison Herman placed eighth. Kelly Harris also took part in the B-Final.
- Hogan again led the Musketeers in the 100 fly, finishing third in the Championship final. Lorelei Gaertner and Sophia Romero finished first and second in the B-Final, and Erin Ritz and Anna Baker also took part in the consolation final.
- Clara Keiser was the top seed in the prelims of the 200 free, finishing with the bronze medal in the finals. Emma Swabb took part in the B-Finals.
- Julianne Libler and Lydia Schaeffer took part in the Championship final of the 100 breast, finishing sixth and eighth respectively. Alison Herman took the top spot in the B-Final and Kelly Harris finished third in the consolation final.
- Kali Fischer collected a bronze medal in the 100 back and Brooke Atkins finished seventh in the Championship final. Maureen Cummins and Erin Merke took part in the consolation final.
- Xavier's women closed out the night with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay for Brooke Atkins, Julianne Libler, Taylor Hogan and Kali Fischer.
- With 19 swims in the finals, Xavier moved up a spot in the overall standings to third, behind Villanova and UConn.

MEN'S NOTABLE |
- Jack Parker's third-place finish led the Musketeers in the Championship final of the 400 IM, while Cameron Weese finished seventh. Jon Bernard and Will Serad went 1-2 in the B-Final.
- Joey Mullen led the Musketeers in the Championship final of the 100 fly, with Alex Sironen, and Roark Lundal finishing third and fourth. Nick Mahoney took part in the consolation final.
- Andrew Martin set a new school record and took the BIG EAST Championship in the 200 free, marking the second time in program history Xavier has won the event. Ethan Wing and Jared Ritz also took part in the Championship final. Daniel Stroh took the top spot in the consolation final.
- Will Serad led three Musketeers in the Championship final of the 100 breast with a fourth-place finish, with Roark Lundal placing sixth and Davis Klein placing seventh. Cameron Weese took the top spot int he consolation final and Noah Coomler also took place in the B-Final.
- Christian Thomas took the championship in the 100 back, leading three Musketeers in the top three. Andrew Devine placed second and Ben Quon finished third. Nick Mahoney also took part in the Championship final. Thomas' title is the fifth BIG EAST championship in the event for Xavier.
- Xavier closed out the meed with an nearly three-second win in the 400 medley relay for Alex Sironen, Roark Lundal, Joey Mullen and Christian Thomas. Its the sixth time the program has claimed the conference title in the event, and fifth since joining the BIG EAST.
- Despite not competing in the final men's diving competition, Xavier extended its lead to 77 points over second-place Villanova.
