Ahmeir Kyle Becomes First Musketeer to Compete in NCAA DI Singles Championships

Kyle falls in three sets to No. 60 Paris Corley of LSU
ORLANDO - Xavier women's tennis' Ahmeir Kyle made program history on Sunday, becoming the first Musketeer to compete in the NCAA DI Singles Championships. Kyle fell 6-2, 6(5)-7, 6-3Â to Paris Corley of LSU in the first round to wrap up a historic season for the senior from St. Joseph, Mich.
Kyle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in set one, but Corley, the No. 60 ranked player in the latest ITA National rankings for individuals, came back to take the first set, 6-2.
In the second set, Corley took a 2-0 lead before Kyle battled back to pick up two of the next three games to trail 3-2.  Corley took the next two to lead 5-2, and Kyle responded with four straight games to take the 6-5 lead in the set.
Corley tied it up at 6-6, sending set two to tiebreakers. Kyle took a 2-0 lead and the pair battled to 3-3 before Kyle took the next three to go up 6-3. Corley responded to pull within one, 6-5, but Kyle picked up the deciding tiebreaker to take set two, 7-6 (5) and force a third set.
In set three, Kyle took the first game before Corley took a 2-1 lead. After playing to a 3-3 draw, Corley took the final three games to take the set, 6-3, and the match.
In addition to being the first Xavier player to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships, this season Kyle became the first Musketeer to be ranked in the ITA National Rankings for multiple weeks, reaching as high as No. 107 in the national rankings. She came in at No. 121 in the most recent rankings.
Kyle, a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, went 10-5 in singles play this season, playing in the No. 1 position in dual matches during the spring. Among the singles wins for Kyle were a pair of wins over ranked opponents from Louisville and Memphis in back-to-back matches during the regular season.
