
Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader, Series with Seton Hall

Trevor Olson picks up win in 6.2 innings of work in series finale
CINCINNATIÂ -Â After falling in game one of Saturday's doubleheader following a late rally by Seton Hall, Xavier baseball bounced back to take game two and split the season series 2-2 with the Pirates.
In game one, Xavier took a lead on an Alex Helmin homer in the first inning, and made it a two-run lead in the fifth. SHU scored a run in the sixth, giving Xavier a 2-1 lead headed in the final inning of the seven-inning game. The Pirates scored six in the top of the frame to take a 7-2 lead, holding on to take game three and move ahead 2-1 in the series.
In game two, the Musketeers took the lead on the first pitch they saw with an Andrew Walker homer, and added three more in the second to take a 4-2 they would not relinquish. Seton Hall cut the lead to one, 4-3 in the fourth but a two-run homer from Jack Housinger put the Musketeers ahead 6-3, and a single from Tyler DeMartino added an important fourth run to the lead in the seventh, putting Xavier ahead, 7-3. The Pirates rallied to score three in the top of the ninth, but couldn't get the tying run across, giving Xavier the 7-6 win in the series finale.
Trevor Olson picked up the win in game two after going 6.2 innings in the start, only allowing three runs. Jared Gadd earned the save after coming in to get the final two outs of the game with the go-ahead run on base.
Xavier moved to 19-21Â overall and 10-8 in BIG EAST play, while Seton Hall moved to 21-17 overall and 14-5Â in conference play. Xavier remains at home next weekend, hosting Georgetown for a four-game series, scheduled to run from Friday through Sunday.

5TH INNING | Jared Cushing led off the inning with a double down the left-field line, then moved to third on a sac bunt from Sam Olson. Andrew Walker reached on a fielder's choice and the throw home wasn't in time, with Cushing scoring to put Xavier up 2-0.

7TH INNING | Natale Monastra singled to right field to lead off the inning, and Tyler DeMartino hit a two-out single to bring Monastra home, putting Xavier up 7-3.

- Andrew Walker picked up three RBI on the day, bringing in one in game one, and a pair in game two. Walker finished with a pair of hits, both in game two, including his fourth homer of the year, a solo shot to lead off the game for the Musketeers. Walker also brought in an RBI on single in the the second inning of game two and had a stolen base in each game to add to his team high total, now a perfect 13-13 on stolen bases for the year.
- Alex Helmin finished the day with two RBI after he hit his fourth homer of the season in game one, a solo shot down the left field line. Helmin also brought in a run on a sac fly in game two.
- Jack Housinger brought in three RBI in game two, going 2-4 at the plate including hitting his fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Housinger also brought in an RBI with a single in the second inning.
- Natale Monastra went 2-4 in game two, coming around to score the game-winning run in game two on Saturday. Monastra also had a walk in the first game of the day to extend his reached-safely streak to six games.
- Sam Olson went 1-2Â with a walk and a hit-by-pitch, reaching safely in 3-of-4 plate appearances in the series finale.
- Jared Cushing scored a run in each game, and has reached safely in each of the last four games.

- Lane Flamm went 6.1 innings in the start in game one on Saturday, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks, striking out one. Flamm moved to 2-4 with the loss.
- Trey Schramm entered for the final two outs in the seventh with two out. Schramm faced six batters and allow four earned runs on two hits and two walks.
- Trevor Olson made the start in the series finale, picking up the win after going 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.
