CINCINNATI - Xavier University Vice President and Director of Athletics Greg Christopher announced today that Brian Arlinghaus has been hired as the new Men's Head Golf Coach. Arlinghaus has spent the last six years at Wright State University, serving the last four years as the Head Men's Golf Coach.
"Brian has proven his ability to build a successful program in seven years as a head coach, including the last four years at Wright State," said Christopher. "Brian's diverse resume also includes impressive credentials as a player, a sports psychologist and businessman. I tell our head coaches that they are the CEOs of their programs. Brian is a great fit to be the CEO of our men's golf program."
Arlinghaus, who led Wright State to the 2019 Horizon League Championship and a spot in the NCAA Regionals, has led WSU to seven tournament titles in his four seasons as head coach. He led the Raiders to two championships this past season and two second-place finishes, including the runner-up spot in the 2021 Horizon League Championship.
"I'm thrilled and honored to be the next Men's Golf Coach at Xavier University," said Arlinghaus. "I'd like to thank Greg Christopher, Susan Lipnickey and the entire search committee for the opportunity to lead this program. I believe Xavier University has all of the tools necessary to establish itself as an elite program and win BIG EAST Championships."
Arlinghaus came to Wright State after three years as the head coach at Miami-Hamilton. During his tenure there, Arlinghaus coached the Harriers to second-place conference finishes in 2012 and 2013 and the conference championship in 2014.
Prior his coaching career, he was an assistant golf professional in the Southern Ohio PGA, where he was responsible for operations of junior camps, teaching private lessons to members and public golfers of all skill levels, and competed in Southern Ohio PGA Section tournaments. Arlinghaus is still an active player and frequently plays in amateur tournaments in the Cincinnati and Dayton area.
Arlinghaus earned his bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology from the University of Dayton and obtained his master's degree in sport and exercise psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
A Cincinnati native, Arlinghaus owns and operates Cincinnati Sports Psychology where he works with athletes of all ages and sports to enhance player's mental strength, awareness and focus. He is also a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and served as a Board Member of The First Tee of Greater Miami Valley (TFTGMV) Board of Directors.
