Three Musketeers hit double-digit kills in tournament finale

CHICAGO, Ill. - Xavier dropped a hotly-contested five-set marathon by a score of 18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 13-15 to finish the Loyola Tournament. After Xavier took a 2-1 set lead, neither team had more than a three-point advantage for the remainder of the match. The Musketeers were able to fight to tie the fourth set at 22, and the fifth at 13, but were unable to slam the door.

Xavier moves to .500 on the season with wins over South Carolina State, SIUE and Eastern Kentucky.

NOTABLES

• Kelly Franxman led the offense with 13 kills and a hit percentage of .275. She completed the double-double with 15 digs, and added two blocks as well.

• Moriah Hopkins put up 11 kills and four blocks, her best outing of the tournament.

• MaryAnn O'Toole wrapped up an impressive weekend with a double-double of her own: 10 kills and 12 digs.

• Delaney Hogan was excellent on defense with 6 blocks (2 solo), and she had a season-high nine kills.

• Carrigan O'Reilly crossed the 100-assist mark for the weekend with 44 helpers against Loyola. Stevie Wolf led the team with 18 digs, and Alyssa Overbeck had 9.

• The Musketeers prepare for their regular season home opener at the Xavier Invitational next weekend. Their first match is slated for September 10 at 6:30 PM ET.
